Knife fish has been reported to deplete the native populations of fishes such as silver therapon or ayungin, goby or biya and freshwater shrimp or hipon, ultimately upsetting the biodiversity of the Laguna Lake thus, the emergence of the term "Knife Fish Invasion". Other fish populations such as tilapia and milkfish, the two main commodities harvested from the lake are also destructed by this invasion as claimed by the local fishermen. These fishermen claim that knife fish does not possess any value or worth. As such, there is a drive to investigate its economic utilization. The LSPU - LB Campus has created its own recipe to utilize knife fish. This utility model applies to the utilization of knife fish as ice cream. Results of the sensory evaluation of the study manifested that there is no observed pungent taste and smell which is often attributed to the knife fish.
