Abstract

One aspect of the utility model provides an apparatus operable as a set-top unit and having an operating system which permits two-way or bidirectional packet-based data communication services and a digital television system which permits digital broadcast services. Applications may be enabled to be executed on a modified application framework associated with the operating system to perform media processing operations and generate media contents based on performed media processing operations. Also included in the apparatus is a media interaction manager that can be executed on the application framework to generate media interaction data based on interactions of a user with the media contents via a user access interface which operably supports controlled communications between any one of the applications and the application framework, between the application framework and the operating system, and between the operating system and the digital television system.
