Abstract
A substrate having a micro embossed patterns used as security feature comprising an authenticating visual element that can adhere to packaging, banknotes, identity cards and tickets. A substrate having a micro embossed patterns used as security feature comprising an authenticating visual element provided at least part of the substrate's surface capable of producing at least one visual pattern that will validate authenticity, said authenticating visual element includes a plurality of embossed diamond shape members configured to absorb, refract and reflect light in different angles revealing text, logos or insignias.

Title: A SUBSTRATE HAVING A MICRO EMBOSSED
PATTERNS USED AS SECURITY FEATURE
This utility model relates in general to security : feature for use in packaging, labels, identity cards : and the likes but more particularly to a substrate having a micro embossed patterns used as security feature.
To prevent unauthorized duplication or alteration of documents, frequently there are special indicia or a background pattern provided for sheet materials such as tickets, checks, currency, and the like. The indicia or background pattern is imposed upon the sheet material usually by some type of printing process such as offset printing, lithography, letterpress or other like mechanical systems, by a variety of photographic methods, by xeroprinting, and a host of other methods.
’ The pattern or indicia may be produced with ordinary inks, from special inks which may be magnetic, fluorescent, or the like, from powders which may be baked on, from light sensitive materials such as silver salts or azo dyes, and the like. Most of these patterns placed on sheet materials depend upon complexity and resolution to avoid ready duplication. Consequently, ! they add an increment of cost to the sheet material without being fully effective in many instances in providing the desired protection from unauthorized duplication or alteration.
Various methods of counterfeit-deterrent strategies have been suggested including Moire-inducing line structures, variable-sized dot patterns, latent images, see-through, bar-codes, and diffraction based holograms. However, none of these methods employs a true scrambled image or the added security benefits deriving therefrom.
The main object of the present utility model is to provide a substrate having a micro embossed patterns .
} used as security feature for use against counterfeiting.
A more specific object of the present utility model is to provide means for significantly reducing the likelihood of «counterfeiting and unauthorized modification of documentary security and object authentication devices based upon diffraction of light, such as holograms, and blazed reflection phase gratings.
Another object of the present utility model is to provide means for thwarting unauthorized reproduction by sophisticated micro embossing techniques that produce diffraction-based documentary security and object authentication devices.
These and other objects and advantages of the present utility model would become apparent upon reading the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the appended drawings wherein: 3L
’ Figure 1 is a schematic representation showing one of the authenticating texts embossed on the substrate.
Figure 2 1s a schematic representation of the substrate viewed in different angle.
Figure 3 is a super exposed representation of the authenticating text embossed on the substrate.
With reference to figure 1, the substrate 10 having a micro embossed patterns used as security feature which is preferably used in labels, packaging, security papers and the likes. The substrate 10 is made of any material chosen from paper, paperboard, metallic foil and films having an exceptionally glossy surface with varying thickness and opacity.
Said substrate 10 comprises an authenticating visual element 11 encoded on the substrate’s surface 12 capable of producing at least one visual pattern that will validate authenticity. Said authenticating element includes a plurality of diamond shape member 13 adjoining and cascadingly configured in varying density and orientation (shown in figure 3 labeled 4t
} as 14 and 15 respectively) to absorb, diffract and reflect light in different angles revealing the authenticating text, logos or insignias one at a time when viewed at different angle.
The authenticity testing feature is observable under a variety of illumination and viewing condition.
The micro embossing of the metallic substrate maybe done hot or cold by exposing said substrate to a template having the desired pattern of the diamond shape member.
The embossed printed pattern must be done on a shiny metallic substrate so that light will be absorbed, diffracted and reflected showing the encoded image text or logos clearly when viewed at different direction. 1s st
