Abstract

The present invention relates to a mattress with ventilation system for the prevention and the treatment of decubitus ulcers or bedsores on immobile patients. The mattress with ventilation system comprises a rectangular mattress body provided with spaced ventilating through holes, a temperature sensor and a moisture detector provided proximate said mattress body. The present invention further includes a programmable controller in electrical communication with the temperature sensor and the moisture detector, and at least one blower fan arranged below the mattress body in electrical communication with the programmable controller. Both the temperature sensor and moisture detector serve to provide input parameters to said programmable controller for the activation of the blower fan, such that when heat and moisture are detected, the controller is programmed to activate the blower fan to deliver ventilating air through the spaced ventilating through holes of the mattress body. The mattress body defined by a plurality of rectangular overlapping segments being attached at the ends thereof.
