Abstract
This invention relates to a reversible cutting tool with multiple cutting edges for making cylindrical dowels of bamboo shoots in uniform and consistent sizes. Metal cylinders are fixed side by side in a manner to fit tightly inside a metal strip enabling the severance of the equivalent cylindrical dowels of the bamboo shoot in one stroke. When the cutting edges become dull, the tool can be flipped over to allow the other side of the tool to be used. When fitted in industrial-type devices, a handle can be fixed on one side of the strip to allow safe and easy cleaning and replacement. When used in personal kitchens, a pair of raised handles is attached to the strip at opposite sides of the strip.

SPECIFICATION
REVERSIBLE CUTTING TOOL
This invention pertains to a vegetable cutting device, and more particularly to a vegetable cutting device for either manual or automatic cutting of vegetables such as bamboo shoots or other vegetables with similar integrity.
The bamboo grass is a well-known source of building materials as its mature stem can be used for scaffolding, bracing, floor tiles, posts, and frames. The bamboo’s shoots is edible and can be used as an ingredient in various dishes.
Processing the shape or form the bamboo shoots is therefore important in preparing this type of food. Normally, bamboo shoots are processed in the form of strips or sheets cut along or across the long-axis of the stock. Another way of preparing the shoots is to cut them in the form of Gyiindrical dowels, say, 10mm or larger in diameter. Said shape or form would stimulate new ways of using bamboo shoot in food preparation and expand its potential and commercial prospect.
At present though, the practicality of making cylindrical dowels of bamboo shoot in uniform and consistent sizes is not feasible because there are no specialized tools for this purpose. The cutting tools currently used are limited to knives of straight cutting edges that render the process very laborious, inefficient and wasteful, and the product varying both in size and shape.
There are various machines providing cutting means to process vegetables. One such apparatus is disclosed by DE202011050041U1 (‘041) invented by Repac
Cedomir, which teaches a cutting insert having a first cutting blade assembly for a food comminution device having a press die for forcing of material to be comminuted by the cutting insert, characterized in that the first cutting blade assembly is disposed in a first region of the cutting insert and that a second, different from the first area region, a having second cutting blade assembly. ‘041 s further discloses that either the first cutting blade assembly or the second cutting blade assembly can be positioned in a working position within a food comminution device and selectively used. This may take place where the cutting insert is fixed in different positions and/or in different positions on or in a food- crushing device. However, ‘041 failed to specifically disclose a cylindrical cutting tool suitably fabricated to process bamboo shoots to bring out bamboo dowels therefrom. Moreover, only one side of the cutting insert is disclosed to be used for cutting in ‘041.
Thus, the state of the art limits the potential and commercial prospect of bamboo 15s shoot in food preparation.
This invention seeks to solve the aforementioned problem by providing a cutting tool that processes bamboo shoots in order to produce bamboo dowels. Another object of this invention is provide a cutting tool that can be used manually or as an insert to an automatic or mechanical food processor to processing bamboo shoots into dowels.
Another object is to provide a cutting tool with multiple cutting edges for making dowels from bamboo shoots that are uniform and consistent in size.
Yet another object is to provide a cutting tool with multiple cutting edges for making dowels from bamboo shoots quickly, easily and efficiently.
a Co
Still another object is to provide a cutting tool with multiple cutting edges for making dowels from bamboo shoots that is adaptable for use in personal kitchen or industrial use. 5s And, yet a further object is to provide a cutting tool with multiple cutting edges for making dowels from bamboo shoots that can be easily fabricated.
Figure 1 show a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 3 shows a top plan view of the invention in the shape of a circle.
Figure 4 shows a top plan view of the cylinders arranged in the form of a square.
Figure 5 shows the invention with a set of handling means.
Figure 6 shows the invention with two sets of handling means.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4, a cutting tool 10 for bamboo shoots is provided comprising a metal frame strip 12 with both ends fixedly attached to each other forming a loop 122. The ends may be attached to each other by any means but preferably by welding.
A plurality of metal cylinders 14 are conformably and fixedly positioned inside metal frame strip 12. Cylinders 14 are fixedly attached to one another by any means but preferably by welding. A plurality of polygons 141 are formed between the cylinders fixed locations in the metal strip 12.
Cd .
The depth of the cylinders 14 are the same as strip 12. Both sides of the edge of the cylinders 14 are sharpened for cutting through bamboo shoots to form bamboo dowels. The sharpened edges of cylinders 14 may be serrated (not shown). When one of cutting edge of cylinders 14 facing become dull, the user s can just flip the tool over and use the other cutting edge.
The depth of metal frame strip 12 and cylinders 14 are in a range between 1.0 centimeters to 1.5 centimeters. The thickness can be from 2.0 millimeters to 4.0 millimeters. Any strong alloy may be used as metal frame strip 12 and for 10 cylinders 14.
Different configurations of the cutting tool 10 may be fabricated. As shown in
Figures 1 to 2, a hexagonal shaped tool may be formed from cylinders 14. Figure 3 on the other hand, shows a circular configuration of tool while Figure 4 provides 15 a square formation of the cylinders 14 without strip 12.
Referring to Figures 5 and 6, handling means 16 are provided to tool 10 by attaching a single holder to strip 12. A set of handling means 16 shown in Figure can be used where tool 10 will be incorporated as a detachable cutting element as part of a mechanical device for industrial purposes similar to one disclosed in 12016000376 entitled “An Industrial-Type Manually-Operated Device for Cutting
Bamboo Shoots” made by Segundino U. Foronda and Edward Allan A. Foronda.
A set of handling means 16 will make it easier and safer for the user to clean and replace tool 10. A pair of handling means 16 shown in Figure 6 can be attached to strip 12 on opposite sides where tool 10 will be manufactured as a personal kitchen appliance. The user can simply put the bamboo shoots on top of a chopping block and push tool 10 down onto the shoots using handling means 16.
When the cutting edges become dull, the user can just flip tool 10 to allow the other side of the cylinders 16 to be used to cut the shoots.
