Abstract

The volatile component is an antimicrobial compound, a volatile oil, or a molecular complex of a volatile compound with a molecular encapsulating agent. In a preferred aspect, the binder component is polyvinyl alcohol; and the volatile compound is 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). Furthermore, the volatile component has a boiling point between 40°C and 300°C. It also relates to methods of preparing said formulations. The formulations of the invention are useful against pathogens that affect meats, plants or parts of plants, or dairy products.
