Abstract

The plastic foil for packaging preferably cube-shaped products is characterized by the fact that it consists of polyolefine, preferably polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).

Description

1 1 2057
Description
Plastic film
The invention relates to a plastic film, particularly for packaging preferably cube-shaped products such as soup cubes.
Aluminium-paper laminates hâve generally been used for such purposes up to now andhâve caused difficulties not only in production but also in recycling.
The aim of the invention is to indicate a plastic film that is very suitable for suchapplications.
In the solution to this problem proposed by the invention, the plastic film consiste of apolyolefin film, preferably PE or PP, that is easy to fold.
Since it is easy to fold, the packaging film can be adapted precisely to the necessaryshape.
In an advantageous further development of the invention, the plastic film consiste ofOPP or OPE. 2 1 2057
Plastic films made from both materials can be folded particularly easily.
It has proved to be very advantageous in this context if in accordance with a furtherdevelopment of the invention the plastic film is 10 to 100 pm thick.
Plastic films in this thickness range hâve proved to be particularly effective. $ In another advantageous development of the invention, the plastic film is metallised onat least one side.
It can also be provided in accordance with one development of the invention that theplastic film is provided on at least one side with a layer of glue or sealing agent.
This makes it possible for the pack produced from the plastic film to be closed tightly. jû It has proved to be very advantageous in this context if in accordance with another development of the invention the coating of sealing agent is applied in a thickness of 1to 15 g/m2.
In another advantageous development of the invention, a heat-seal lacquer is providedas the coating of sealing agent.
It is also very advantageous if in accordance with another development of theinvention an adhesive substance that is sensitive to pressure is provided as the layer ofglue.
This makes it particularly easy to close the pack.
It has proved to be particularly advantageous in this context if in accordance with the 20 invention the outside of the plastic film is provided with a layer of glue or sealingagent. 3 1 2057 10 15
It has proved to be a particularly favourable solution in this context if in accordancewith a further development of the invention at least the layer of glue or sealing agenton the outside of the plastic film is applied on a pattern basis.
This means that this layer of glue or sealing agent is only provided where it is needed.
It is also very favourable if ink is applied to the plastic film.
This ink layer can be provided with a masking lacquer in accordance with anotherdevelopment of the invention.
The ink is given additional protection as a resuit.
It is particularly favourable in this context if in accordance with a further developmentof the invention the masking lacquer is applied in the printing process.
The masking lacquer can be applied in a thickness of 0.1 to 10.0 g/m2 in accordancewith a further development of the invention.
Two embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a cross-section through a plastic film,
Fig. 2 shows a tubular section of the plastic film,
Fig. 3 shows a soup cube wrapped in the film according to, Fig. 1 or 2,
Fig, 4 is a cross-section through another plastic film,
Fig. 5 shows a tubular section of the plastic film according to Fig. 4 and 4 1 2057
Fig. 6 shows a soup cube wrapped in the film according to Figs. 4 and 5. 1 in Fig. 1 is a plastic film that is produced from OPE. One side of this OPE film 1 iscoated with heat-seal lacquer 2, while the other side has colour printing 3.
This colour printing 3 is provided in addition with an overprint lacquer 4. j The plastic film 1 is metallised on one side as well (layer 5). A section of this plastic film 1 is formed into a tube 20 along a longitudinal seam 21.In order to produce a soup cube pack as illustrated in Fig. 3, one end of the tube 20 isfolded inwards first of ail and then the product is filled. The other end of the tubularsection of the plastic film 1 is then folded inwards too. Since the plastic film can befolded so effectively, the gusset corners fit very closely around the product once theyhâve been folded into place, so that a tight pack is produced even without additionalsealing.
If the product is brick-shaped, it can be wrapped in a fiat section of film instead ofusing a tubular pack. ^2 Where particularly sensitive products are involved, it is possible with both embodiments to seal the individual end sections together when they hâve been foldedinto position. OPP or PP can be used as the material for the plastic film instead of OPE. Thethickness of the film is about 50 pm, but it can be varied between 1,0 and 100 pm 20 according to the requirements.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, 41 is a further plastic film that is produced fromOPE. This OPE film 41 is coated on one side with an adhesive substance 42 that is 1 2 057 5 sensitive to pressure. Colour printing 43 that is provided in addition with an overprintlacquer 44 is located undemeath this adhesive substance.
The adhesive substance can be applied in a pattern here, something which is anadvisable solution on both the inside and the outside. 5 The plastic film 41 can also be metallised on one side (layer 45) in addition to orinstead of the colour printing 43.
In accordance with the previous embodiment, a section of this plastic film 41 is formedinto a tube 50 along a longitudinal seam 21. In order to produce a soup cube pack asillustrated in Fig. 5, one end of the tube 50 is folded inwards first of ail and then the 10 product is fîlled. The other end of the tubular section of the plastic film 41 is thenfolded inwards too. Since the plastic film can be folded so effectively, the gussetcorners fit very closely around the product once they hâve been folded into place. Thegusset corners are in addition glued to the outside of the pack with the help of the layerof glue. Sealing is possible too if an appropriate coating has been applied. 15 If the product is brick-shaped, it can be wrapped in a fiat section of film instead of using a tubular.pack.
