Abstract

Described is an anti-fogging apparatus for a camera assembly. The anti-fogging apparatus includes a camera affixed to a substrate, and a thermally conductive plate (102), the thermally conductive plate positioned in front of the substrate and defining a first aperture (116) aligned with a lens of the camera. A transparent plate (106) is positioned in front of the thermally conductive plate such that the transparent plate covers said first aperture. A gasket (110) is positioned in front of the transparent plate and defines a second aperture (112) aligned with the first aperture. A heating element (104) is affixed to the thermally conductive plate. A case encloses the camera, the thermally conductive plate, the transparent plate, the gasket, and the heating element. Each of the case, insulating element, transparent plate, and thermally conductive plate includes a fastening holes (120A, 118A, 114A) such that fasteners may pass through them from the outside of the case to complete the assembly. This provides for ease of disassembling the assembly for servicing any of the components.

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. An anti-fogging apparatus for a camera assembly comprising: a thermally conductive plate having a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface, the thermally conductive plate defining a first re configured to align with a lens of a camera; a transparent plate positioned in front of the lens of the camera and ured to align with the first aperture; a gasket positioned between the thermally conductive plate and the transparent plate and that defines a second aperture configured to align with the first aperture; a case that houses the thermally conductive plate, the transparent plate, and the ; at least one fastener passing through at least one opening in the case and at least one opening in the thermally conductive plate that align with each other.
2. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one fastener comprises multiple fasteners.
3. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 2, wherein the multiple ers together surround the first re of the thermally conductive plate.
4. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, n the transparent plate is positioned in front of the first surface of the thermally conductive plate.
5. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the gasket is positioned in front of the first surface of the thermally conductive plate.
6. The ogging apparatus of claim 1, further comprising: the camera; a second camera that is different than the camera; and a second transparent plate positioned in front of a lens of the second camera.
7. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first re of the thermally conductive plate defines an oval shape that has a first dimension that is longer than a second dimension, wherein the second dimension is transverse to the first dimension.
8. The ogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second re of the gasket is smaller than the first aperture of the thermally conductive plate.
9. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one fastener passes through a first opening in the gasket and a first opening in the transparent plate.
10. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a heating element affixed to the thermally conductive plate.
11. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 10, further comprising a l switch to detect a temperature of the g element, the thermally conductive plate, or an environment inside the case, the thermal switch being configured to couple and decouple the heating element to a power source according to instructions generated by a controller, wherein the controller generates the instructions based on processing the detected temperature.
12. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 11, wherein the thermal switch is ured to couple and decouple the g element to the power source according to the ctions generated by the controller, wherein the controller generates the instructions based on processing at least the detected temperature of the heating element and one of (i) the environment and (ii) the thermally conductive plate.
13. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 11, wherein the thermal switch comprises a first thermistor adapted to detect a temperature of the heating element and a second thermistor adapted to detect a temperature of the environment inside the case.
14. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 11, n the thermal switch is affixed to the first surface of the thermally conductive plate with a er.
15. The ogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the thermally conductive plate is aluminum.
16. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the lens of the camera is oned within the first aperture in the thermally conductive plate.
17. The ogging apparatus of claim 10, wherein the heating element is a heating pad.
18. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, n the gasket is a silicone pad.
19. The anti-fogging apparatus of claim 1, wherein the gasket is a silica desiccant pack.
20.
