Abstract

The present invention relates to an article for use within a non-combustible aerosol provision system and a non-combustible aerosol provision system. The article includes a filter and an aerosol-generating portion comprising an aerosol-generating material and an encapsulated first aerosol-modifying agent. Upon heating, the encapsulated first aerosol-modifying agent is released once a threshold release temperature has been reached. The filter includes a component holding a second aerosol-modifying agent, wherein the second aerosol-modifying agent is selectively releasable from the component.

Claims (23)

Claims
1. An article for use within a non-combustible aerosol provision system, the article comprising a filter and an aerosol-generating portion, 5 wherein the aerosol-generating portion comprises an aerosol-generating material and an encapsulated first aerosol-modifying agent, wherein the encapsulated first aerosol-modifying agent is ed in the form of an amorphous solid comprising: 1-60 wt% of a g agent; 0.1-50 wt% of an aerosol-former agent; and 0.1-80 wt% of the aerosol-modifying agent, ated on a 10 dry weight basis, and the first aerosol-modifying agent is released on heating to at least a old release temperature, and wherein the filter comprises a component holding a second aerosol-modifying agent, wherein the second aerosol-modifying agent is selectively releasable from the component by a user actuating a release mechanism.
2. An article according to claim 1, wherein the first and/or second lmodifying agent comprises a flavourant.
3. An article according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the second aerosol-modifying 20 agent has a release temperature in excess of the temperature to which it is exposed on heating.
4. An article according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein aerosol-generating portion includes a wrapper scribing at least part of the aerosol-generating 25 material.
5. An e according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the encapsulated first aerosol-modifying agent is in the form of a plurality of elements which are mixed with the aerosol-generating material.
6. An article according to any one of claims 1 to 5, n first and second aerosol-modifying agents are the same.
7. An article according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the first and second 35 aerosol-modifying agents are different.
8. An article according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the amorphous solid is in the form of a sheet.
9. An article according to claim 8, wherein the sheet is shredded.
10. An article ing to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein the aerosol-generating material comprises a tobacco material.
11. An e according to any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein the filter ses a 10 filter plug which retains the component holding the second aerosol-modifying agent, and wherein the filter plug comprises a non-aerosolisable filtration material.
12. An article according to claim 11, wherein the non-aerosolisable filter material comprises one or more of cellulose acetate, a ceramic material, a polymer matrix 15 and/or activated carbon.
13. An e according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein the aerosol-generating portion further comprises a third aerosol-modifying agent. 20
14. An e according to claim 13, wherein the third aerosol-modifying agent comprises an unencapsulated flavourant.

An article according to any one of claims 1 to 14, wherein the ulating material comprises at least one of a polysaccharide material; a cellulosic material; a 25 gelatin; a gum; a protein material; a polyol matrix material; an ous solid; a gel; a wax; a polyurethane; polymerised, hydrolysed ethylene vinyl acetate; a polyester; a polycarbonate; a thacrylate; a polyglycol; polyethylene; polystyrene; polypropylene; polyvinyl chloride or a mixture thereof. 30
16. An article according to any one of claims 1 to 15, n the component comprises a breakable capsule and the breakable capsule contains the second aerosolmodifying agent.
17. An article according to claim 16, wherein the pressure difference across the filter 35 when the user inhales is in the range of 30-90 mmH2O, when the capsule is in an en state, suitably 35-60 mmH2O, 38-55 mmH2O or 40-50 mmH2O.
18. An article ing to claim 16 or claim 17, wherein the breakable capsule has a core-shell ure. 5
19. An article according to claim 18, wherein the core comprises at least about 25% w/w flavourant, based on the total weight of the core.
20. An article according to any one of claims 16 to 19, wherein the breakable capsule includes a barrier material which retains the l-modifying agent, and wherein the 10 barrier material comprises one or more of a g agent, a bulking agent, a colouring agent, a plasticiser, and a filler material.
21. An article according to any one of claims 16 to 20, wherein the breakable capsule is substantially spherical and has a diameter in the range of about 0.4 mm to 15 about 8.0 mm.
22. An article according to any one of claims 16 to 21, wherein the breakable capsule weighs between about 5 mg and about 60 mg. 20
23. A non-combustible aerosol provision system comprising a heater and an article according to any one of claims 1 to 22, wherein the heater is arranged to heat the l-generating portion of the article in use to generate an aerosol. 2333- 1‘: ,.¢.‘v./ (I) (1‘3 V»
