Abstract

One form of the present technology includes a sealing structure to seal against a user's face around the user's airways. The sealing structure includes a flap or membrane that extends inward towards the user's airways and includes a structure that prevents an inner boundary of the flap or membrane from being blown outwards (e.g., folded backwards upon itself) due to internal pressurization. The invention is a patient interface that comprises a sealing structure with a sealing surface and a loop, a positioning and stabilising structure, a plenum chamber pressurised at a pressure above ambient pressure and a gas washout vent. The loop is fastened to the interior surface of the sealing structure at a connection point that forms a first curved surface from a first side of the loop and a second curved surface from a second side of the loop the interior surface of the sealing structure.

Claims (22)

1. A patient interface for sealed delivery of a flow of air at a continuously positive pressure with respect to ambient air re to an entrance to the patient’s airways including at least entrance of a patient’s nares, wherein the patient interface is ured to maintain a therapy pressure in a range of about 3 cmH2O to about 40 cmH2O above ambient air pressure in use, throughout the patient’s atory cycle, while the patient is ng, to ameliorate sleep disordered breathing, the patient interface comprising: a sealing structure to seal the patient interface against the patient’s face, the sealing structure comprising: a sealing surface configured to form a seal around a periphery of the entrance to the patient’s airways, and a loop comprising a n of the sealing structure folded inwards of an outer ter of the sealing structure and attached to an interior surface of the sealing structure such that the interior surface of the sealing structure is continuous about the loop, an exterior portion of the loop that is opposite the interior surface of the sealing structure comprises a portion of the sealing e; a positioning and stabilising structure to maintain the sealing structure in sealing contact with an area surrounding an entrance to the patient’s airways while ining a therapeutic re at the entrance to the patient’s airways; a plenum chamber rised at a pressure above ambient pressure in use; and a gas washout vent configured to allow a flow of patient exhaled CO2 to an exterior of the patient interface to minimise rebreathing of exhaled CO2 by the patient, wherein the loop is fastened to the interior surface of the sealing structure at a connection point that forms a first curved surface from a first side of the loop and a second curved surface from a second side of the loop to the interior surface of the sealing structure.
2. The patient interface according to claim 1, further comprising a sealing flap protruding towards an inner perimeter of the sealing structure.
3. The patient interface ing to claim 2, wherein the sealing flap is configured to form a seal against the sides of the nose above the nasal bones and nt the sides of the nose above the maxilla, in the depression adjacent the endocanthion of the patient.
4. The patient interface according to claim 3, wherein the sealing flap is configured to avoid g against the ala.
