Abstract

Method for controlling a dozer blade (46) by a GPS guided automatic grade control system comprising a skid steer vehicle having a main arm (48) with a dozer blade assembly (30) on the front. Stops (28) are provided to define the lower position of the main arm (48), and the skid steer vehicle includes a mechanism for preventing a hydraulic actuator (32) lifting the main arm. The GPS guided automatic grade control system is connected to hydraulic actuators (38) that control blade pitch to affect a height of the dozer blade (46) relative to the ground. Laser based grade control systems require control masts attached to the dozer blade, which must be held nearly vertical, only allowing the blade height to be controlled by moving the main arm. The use of a GPS guided grade control systems allows the pitch axis to be controlled, freeing the limitations of earlier systems.
