Abstract
Disclosed is a general power outlet (GPO) (20). The (GPO) (20) comprises: at least one socket (21); a power module (22) for supplying electrical power to each socket (21); a control module (23) for controlling the power supply state of each of the at least one socket and comprising a controller communications module (24) for receiving a switching signal (40) from a remote switch module (30); a housing adapted to allow removable attachment of the remote switch module (30) to the housing; and an attachment detection module (25) for detecting attachment of the remote switch module (30) to the GPO (20), where the attachment detection module (25) comprises a sensor (26) which detects physical attachment of the remote switch module (30) to the GPO (20) and generates an attachment signal which indicates to the control module (23) that the remote switch module (30) is attached to the GPO (20), which is used by the control module (23) to control or inhibit switching of the power supply state. A remote control mode of the control module (23) only switches the power supply state when the remote switch module (30) is detected as being attached to the GPO (20).
