Abstract

A safety cigarette lighter includes a spring (21) comprising a resilient member mounted in compression under the pivoted push lever end - the gas pedal. In one version, a free end (22) of the spring passing through the push lever engages with the typically serrated drive wheels (20) of the sparking wheel assembly (14), preventing rotation unless the gas pedal has already been pushed. In another version, a surface of the push lever bearing serrations is pushed up against the serrated wheels by a hidden spring, preventing rotation unless the gas pedal has already been sufficiently depressed.
