Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method of controlling undesirable vegetation in a field containing an auxin and glufosinate herbicide-resistant cotton crop while reducing the amount of injury to the crop plants, the method comprising applying to the location of the crop where control is desired a mixture of an effective amount of 4-(2,4- dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (2,4-DB) and an effective amount of glufosinate, wherein the plants of the herbicide-resistant cotton crop comprise an aryloxyalkanoate herbicide-tolerance gene coding for an aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase (AAD) selected from the group consisting of AAD-1 and AAD-12. e of an effective amount of 4-(2,4- dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (2,4-DB) and an effective amount of glufosinate, wherein the plants of the herbicide-resistant cotton crop comprise an aryloxyalkanoate herbicide-tolerance gene coding for an aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase (AAD) selected from the group consisting of AAD-1 and AAD-12.

Description

METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WEEDS IN A FIELD OF COTTON PLANTS PRIORITY

Claims (12)

CLAIM
1. A method of controlling undesirable vegetation in a field containing an auxin and glufosinate herbicide-resistant cotton crop while reducing the amount 5 of injury to the crop plants, the method comprising applying to the location of the crop where control is desired a mixture of an effective amount of 4-(2,4- dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (2,4-DB) and an effective amount of glufosinate, wherein the plants of the herbicide-resistant cotton crop comprise an aryloxyalkanoate herbicide-tolerance gene coding for an aryloxyalkanoate 10 dioxygenase (AAD) selected from the group consisting of AAD-1 and AAD-12.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plants of the auxin and glufosinate herbicide-resistant cotton crop further comprises at least one further herbicide-tolerance gene.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein the aryloxyalkanoate-herbicide-resistant cotton crop comprises a gene coding for AAD -1 (aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase). 20
4. The method of claim 1, wherein the aryloxyalkanoate herbicide-resistant cotton crop comprises a gene coding for AAD-12 (aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase).
5. The method of any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the effective amount 25 of 2,4-DB is at least 280 grams acid equivalent/hectare and wherein the effective amount of glufosinate is at least 300 g ae/ha.
6. The method of any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the effective amount of 2,4-DB is from about 280 grams acid equivalent/hectare to about 2,240 grams 30 acid equivalent/hectare and wherein the effective amount of glufosinate is from about 300 g ae/ha to about 1,000 g ae/ha.
7. The method of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the mixture of 2,4-DB and glufosinate is applied to the herbicide-resistant cotton crop post emergent. 5
8. The method of any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the mixture of 2,4-DB and glufosinate is applied to the herbicide-resistant cotton crop post emergent during the vegetative stage of growth of the herbicide-resistant cotton crop. 10
9. The method of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the undesirable vegetation comprises a glyphosate-resistant weed.
10. The method of any one of claims 1 to 9 comprising applying an additional herbicide to the location where control is desired.
11. A method for controlling undesirable vegetation in a field containing an aryloxyalkanoate auxin herbicide-resistant and glufosinate-resistant cotton crop while reducing the amount of epinastic injury to the crop plants, the method comprising: 20 applying to a location in the crop where control is desired, post-emergent and during the vegetative stage of growth of the plants of the herbicide resistant cotton crop, a mixture of from about 280 grams acid equivalent/hectare (g ae/ha) to about 2,240 g ae/ha 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (2,4-DB) and from about 300 g ae/ha to about 1,000 g ae/ha glufosinate, 25 wherein the plants of the herbicide resistant cotton crop comprise a gene coding for AAD-1 (aryloxyalkanoate dioxygenase-1).
12. A method according to claim 1 or 11, substantially as herein described with reference to any example thereof.
