Abstract

613579 A vehicle trailer adapted to move goods on a pallet or the like is disclosed. The trailer includes chassis mounted upon ground engaging means such as wheels. The chassis has two opposed sides (11, 12) to which the ground engaging means are connected, the sides being secured together at or adjacent one end thereof by a cross-member (13) to form a structure which is substantially U-shaped in plan. The end of the chassis adjacent the cross-member is provided with means (14) for securing the trailer to a towing vehicle. The opposite end of the chassis is provided with a load-bearing tailgate (75) arranged to extend between the sides of the chassis so as to removably close off the interior space between the two opposed sides. A loading device is mounted in the interior space adjacent the cross-member; the loading device (22) including a loading fork which is adapted to be moved up and down and which provides at least one load-engaging member (18a, 18b) for engagement with a load. The or each the load-engaging member having a length such that the end of the load-engaging member furthest from the cross-member can be positioned to engage the load-bearing tailgate so as to stabilise the load-engaging member and to transfer load from the load-engaging member to the tailgate. The tail gate may be moved to swing out horizontally and also vertically.
