Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method of making a dissolvable tobacco film strip comprising the steps of: forming a mixture of at least one tobacco component, at least one binder and at least one humectant, wherein the at least one tobacco component comprises shredded, ground and/or powdered tobacco, the binder comprises pullulan, cellulose ethers, sodium alginate, pectin, gums or mixtures thereof and the humectant comprises one or more of polyhydric alcohol and aliphatic ester of mono-, di- or polycarboxylic acid; casting or extruding the mixture to form a film; drying the film; and forming the film into film strips, the tobacco content of the film strip being at least 50% by weight, the binder content of the film strip being from 3% to 12% by weight and the humectant content of the film strip being from 20 to 40% by weight. These consumable tobacco film strips are adapted to dissolve in the oral cavity and provide tobacco satisfaction.
