Abstract

607979 A system for picking and packing products and a method of picking and packing products using the system are disclosed. A system for picking and packing products includes a recorder means, packing means and central processor means. The recorder means includes a first electronic tag associated with a picker, a second electronic tag which identifies a field, and a third electronic tag associated with a field container adapted to contain a picked product. The third electronic tag records picking data from the first electronic tag and the second electronic tag via a first electronic reader. The packing means includes a second electronic reader and an associated processor terminal. The second electronic reader is adapted to read the picking data encoded on the third electronic tag and the picking data is recorded with the associated processor terminal. The second electronic reader is also adapted to read packed product data and data from a fourth electronic tag associated with a product packer. The packed product data includes a market container identification and packing date and time, the packed product data and the data of the product packer from the fourth electronic tag form the packing data. The packing data is recorded with the associated processor terminal. The central processor means stores and processes the picking data and the packing data from the processor terminal. The central processor means includes programming that links the picking data and the packing data to provide a comprehensive record of a series of events that forms a historical account of the packed product and whereby each packed product is trackable with a recorded history to provide accountability of the condition and status of the packed product.
