Abstract

Disclosed is an initiation device; a detonator free blasting system; a blasting system and a method of blasting using an initiation device. The disclosure notes that the initiation device for the initiation of an explosives charge is suitable for use in commercial blasting such as mining or gas wells. The initiation device devises a blast design which specifies time and sequence of initiation between individual charges in a blast. The initiation device comprises a transceiver; a control circuit and a light source. The transceiver receives wireless command signals. The control circuit comprises a timing mechanism to allow precise control of activation of the light source when a wireless FIRE command signal is received by the transceiver. The light source suitable for initiation of the explosive charge and is activated by the control circuit.
