Abstract
Disclosed is a control signal generator (140) for use in controlling a conduction angle in a phase control dimmer circuit for controlling power delivered to a load (10), including a compact fluorescent lamp load. An input (130) receives a signal representative of a user control signal for setting the conduction angle of the phase control dimmer circuit. A boost signal generator (142) then generates a boost signal at or above a conduction threshold for a start-up period if the user control signal is less than the conduction threshold. A control signal is created and output which includes the boost signal if the boost signal is generated.
