Abstract

599835 A method of processing or refining a mineral ore which includes the following steps: (i) passing the lumps of mineral ore (12) through a space (33) between at least one pair of rotating members (7, 8, 9) to reduce the size of the lumps; (ii) forwarding the lumps having the reduced size through a pair of conveyors where the lumps are subject to impaction whereby lumps or particles substantially having a maximum dimension of between 25mm to 150mm are collected; (iii) separating ore lumps which have a lesser specific gravity from impurity lumps by impacting the lumps or particles produced from step (ii) on an impaction surface (81, 88) whereby the impurity lumps having a lesser departure angle than the ore lumps will be discarded; and (iv) collecting the ore lumps for further processing.
