Abstract

597807 Disclosed are methods of assessing and determining the composition of an animals or carcasses. The methods include projecting at least one light stripe onto the animal or carcass by non-uniformly illuminating the animal or carcass and detecting at least part of at least one projected light stripe using a detector. Anatomical features of the animal or carcass are used to generate reference data or an assessment algorithm, which may be used to assess the body composition of the animal or carcass. Apparatuses and computer systems for performing the method are also disclosed.
