Abstract

596311 Disclosed is an ultra-thin, small diameter abrasive cutoff wheel, which comprises: a plurality of abrasive grains (such as those selected from the group consisting of seeded or un seeded sol gel alumina grain and zirconia alumina grain and combinations thereof), an organic bond material and an active filler material, wherein the active filler material comprises i) an active endothermic filler material (such as pyrite, zinc sulfide, copper sulfide, lead oxide, tin oxide, bismuth oxide and combinations thereof) present in a range of about 12% to about 50% by volume of the bond material, and optionally ii) an active filler material selected from the group consisting of Cryolite, PAF, KBF4, K2SO4, and NaCl/KCl and combinations thereof; and wherein the wheel has a thickness within a range of about 0.8 mm to about 2.2 mm and a diameter less than about 400 mm. The disclosed ultra-thin, small diameter abrasive cutoff wheel has an improved grain retention which results in wheels with improved performance and longer article life.
