Abstract

Disclosed is a method for estimating the state of a dielectric elastomer (191). The method includes introducing a small-scale oscillation to a voltage difference between electrodes of the dielectric elastomer (191). The method also includes measuring, over a period of time, potential difference across the dielectric elastomer (191) and series current through the dielectric elastomer (191). Data derived from these measurements are then defined as orthogonal axes and an equation is determined for a plane of best fit through the derived data from the measurements by defining the data as orthogonal axes. The method further includes deriving one or more feedback parameters from coefficients of the plane equation. A system for performing this method is also disclosed.
