Abstract

Counting system (10), in particular for counting bets in a table game using chips and a Method for determining the value of bets in a table game, using chips (6) are disclosed. Each chip is equipped with a radio-frequency identification microcircuit (7). Data in the radio-frequency identification microcircuit indicates the value of the chip. The system includes a gaming table top (2), and at least one area for reading data written in the radiofrequency identification microcircuits, multiplexing means (12), an RFID-type reader (13) coupled to the multiplexing means and means for computing coupled to the RFID-type reader. Each reading area includes a plurality of overlapping antennas (11) fixed to the surface of the gaming table top for reading data from each chip in the reading area. The plurality of antennas configured to surround the at least one reading area. The multiplexing means is coupled to each of the plurality of overlapping antennas and the multiplexing means is configured for reading sequentially each antenna of the plurality of overlapping antennas in the at least one reading area. The RFID-type reader is configured to receive the data received by the plurality of overlapping antennas in the at least one reading area. The means for computing coupled to the RFID-type reader computes to a total amount corresponding to the sum of the chip values, in the at least one reading area on the table top. There is at least one reading area on the table top.
