Abstract

An apparatus (50) for spreading viscous compounds comprises a handle journalled to a roller. The roller has a central core (56) and a series of discs (60) spaced along the core with the edges of the discs projecting beyond the core of the roller. Typically the discs will have a width of 0.25 to 0.75mm, most preferably about 0.5mm. The discs are spaced apart at a distance of between 2.5mm to 3.5mm, most preferably at 3mm. The discs project from the core by a distance of around 3.5mm to 4.0mm or more. The roller is particularly suited in applying a layer of polyurethane to a depth of 1.2mm to 1.8mm in a single coat.
