Abstract
A two-handed method of cutting hair in which the hairdresser cuts the customer's hair using a cutting tool in the right hand when cutting the right hand side of the customer's hair and using a cutting tool held in the left hand when cutting the left side of the customer's hair. Also described is a both hands hair-cutting method that comprises holding a first cutting tool in the right hand of a hairdresser while holding a second hair-cutting tool in the left hand of the hairdresser, and finish cutting the customer's hair with the first and second cutting tools simultaneously or non-simultaneously using both the right and left hands, which are both simultaneously holding the cutting tools.

I, WEN-YA YEH, a Taiwanese citizen of Suite 2, 15th Floor, No. 18, Chuney-Hsueh Road, Tainan, Taiwan, Republic of China, do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:

A METHOD OF CUTTING HAIR
IP
Field of the Invention *
This invention relates to a method of cutting hair.
At present, hairdressers normally hold a cutting tool in one hand only, either the right hand or the left hand, while cutting a customer's hair, combing and cutting the hair at the same time in order to obtain a predetermined hair style. This method of cutting using a cutting tool held in one hand only can result in only the right side or the left side being cut evenly.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings, when a hairdresser begins to cut the hair of a customer, the hairdresser has to stand behind the customer for part of the time and is cutting rearwardly when cutting one side of the customer's hair and forwardly (as shown in Figure 3) when cutting the other side of the customer's hair.
The finished hair style may seem smooth at first but, later, after a night's sleep or washing the hair, may have one side smooth and the other side bent or curled forward, as shown in Figure 4.
In addition, hairdressers have to work every day for a long period of time with their hands raised to a certain height for holding a comb and scissors, so they may suffer from various professional
diseases, such as oedema, stomach illness, a stiff shoulder, or a bent backbone.
It would be desirable to have an improved method of cutting hair.
In broad terms in one form the invention provides a two-handed method of cutting hair in which the hairdresser cuts the customer's hair using a cutting tool held in the right hand when cutting the right side of the customer's hair (as viewed by the hairdresser) and using a cutting tool held in the left hand when cutting the left side of the customer's hair (as viewed by the hairdresser).
In broad terms in another form the invention provides a two-handed method of cutting hair comprising holding a first cutting tool in a right hand of a hairdresser, simultaneously holding a second cutting tool in a left hand of the hairdresser while the first cutting tool is held in the right hand, and finish cutting a customer's hair with the first and second cutting tools simultaneously or non-simultaneously using both the right and left hands holding the hair-cutting tools in the right and left hands simultaneously.

Description of the Preferred Embodiment
The hair cutting method of the present invention as shown in Figures 5 to 22 includes two systems of holding various tools in the right hand and in the left hand, and various cutting modes.
1. The first system.
(1) The first system includes holding tools in both hands, but not cutting using both hands at the same time. Figures 5 and 6 show a method of cutting which includes cutting the hair in a lateral

direction. During cutting of the hair, the scissors are expanded to let the front ends of the two blades open wider than the lower portions near the shaft, so that the hair will not be completely cut off at the lower level until the front ends of the blades are closed. Thus, cutting the hair on the left side using scissors held in the left hand and cutting the hair on the right side using scissors held in the left hand ensures that the lower ends of the hair are trimmed to the same level at the right and left sides. The disadvantage of having different lower levels on the right and left side - which can easily arise when cutting in the conventional method holding the scissors in only one hand - is thus avoided. In each case, the hairdresser cuts the right side of the hair (as viewed by the hairdresser) using a pair of scissors held in the right hand, and cuts the left side of the hair (as viewed by the hairdresser) using a pair of scissors held in the left hand.
(2) Other cutting methods can be used to make various hair styles, for example, zigzag cuts as shown in Figures 7 and 8, cutting with a sliding movement as shown in Figures 9 and 10, cutting temporarily as shown in Figures 11 and 12, cutting while holding the hair bent or curled up as shown in Figures 13 and 14, cutting with a pushing movement as shown in Figure 15 and cutting with a scooping movement as shown in Figure 16. As different hair styles involve cutting the hair at different angles, combing the hair in different directions, and lower hair levels, the hair on the right-hand side of the customer's head should be treated with the right hand and the hair on the left-hand side of the customer's head should be treated with the left hand so as to obtain a balanced condition as

between the hair on the right-hand side and the hair on the left-hand side. The hairdresser is thus not disturbed by the shape of the head, the ears, the shoulders, etc. of a customer. The difficulties which can be encountered when cutting both sides of the hair with only one hand are thus avoided. Again, the hairdresser cuts the right side of the hair (as viewed by the hairdresser) using a pair of scissors held in the right hand, and cuts the left side of the hair (as viewed by the hairdresser) using a pair of scissors held in the left hand.
(3) Next, cutting with both hands in a fast movement as shown in Figures 17 and 18 is used to trim hair into an elegant condition with excellent effect. It applies especially to the cutting of hair in different heights (or lengths) and to forming the lower end of i
the hair with a speedy movement, letting the hair style look soft, pretty, streamlined and stabilised so that it does not deform. Thus, difficulties in obtaining symmetry in the style, the angle or the lower level of the hair which are encountered when cutting hair with only one hand are avoided by the method of the present invention.
(4) Cutting when holding a plurality of scissors in one hand, as shown in Figures 19 and 20, is used for making a 3D hair style, forming notches of many layers of different lengths of hair so that, when the hair is loosened and expanded, it will look naturally beautiful and soft. This method can be applied to both long and short hair to be trimmed in many layers, and adjusting the quantity of hair to be cut. Cutting can be effected rapidly while, at the same

time, overcoming drawbacks of conventional one-handed cutting methods.
(5) Adjusting the quantity of hair to be cut and cutting the hair in the manner shown in Figure 26 is performed using common scissors combined with toothed (or zigzag) scissors synchronously so as to cut the hair to the length needed and at the same time thinning and adjusting the volume of the hair cut.
As shown in the drawings, hairdressers can hold different tools in the right hand and the left hand while cutting and trimming the customer's hair, forming the lower levels on the right-hand side and left-hand side while facing in the same direction, thereby enabling the hairdressing procedure to be carried out more rapidly than when using a conventional one-handed method.
2. The second system.
The second system involves cutting the customer's hair using both hands at the same time. Synchronous cutting operations, with both hands holding scissors, razors or electric cutters as shown in Figures 21 to 25, can be applied to the cutting of large quantities of hair. It is thus possible to ensure that the lower levels on the right side and the left side of the hair extend in the same direction, with the two sides being symmetrical and enabling the finished hair style to look beautiful and natural and soft.
