Abstract

Tube 2 has holes 4 acting as barrels for accommodating solid shot 5. Driving nail 3 into tube 5 forces shot radially outwards and into surrounding base 1. It is noted that the fastening may be removed by withdrawing nail 3 by inserting a suitable tool into recessed key 10, followed by withdrawing tube 2 by applying extra torque to nut 6.

Description

50 63 9 4 1.
ANCHOR BOLT FOR UNIVERSAL CONNECTION This invention relates to improvements in anchor bolt systems available, wherein one type of insertible bolt may be utilized with all textures of structural material. 10 Masonry, concrete, metal, wood, glass and plastic form the majority of structural materials, each texture requiring different contact qualities for ideal surface attachment of another component.
This "Anchor Bolt" will adapt suitably to any structural texture, hereinafter termed "base", by optional choice of the contact materials employed. Consisting of a partially threaded tube, preferably of a metallic nature, with numerous radially attained holes, preferably in multiple sets of four, and including a solid core in the form of a 20 profiled nail, typically of a material to match the tube.
The said holes, each in the form of a slot, circle or polygon, hereinafter termed "barrel", accommodate a thrust plunger in the form of a capsule, disc, or ball, hereinafter 25 termed "shot". The nail, upon being driven into the tube encounters the shot, thrusting it outwardly to extrude thru the outer circumference of the said tube to impact and embed the surrounding base. 40 45 50 To aquire best possible results the loaded shot may be any material (plastic, metal, rubber, etc..) conformable with the base. To clarify this point, say: concrete base, wherein a plastic type shot would be more acceptable, having the flexibility to compact and empregnate rather than metal shot which, when adapted to a timber base would embed into the timber, both obtaining maximum anchorage.
Adjustable &/or removable being major factors for future variation .obviously highlite an insertion bolt which will facilitate these essentials. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention and to provide for these factors, a recessed access key, such as a FM thread located at the nail head, would ensure easy withdrawal of same, and hence the complete unit.
Alternatively, where no adjustment or further movement is necessary, the tube may complement a fixed nut in the form of a round head, panhead, or in fact any shape to suit the anchor bolt's designated use. * rhui kiiY uiYiu- 0F N.Z. 18 «S 2300 RECEIVED 40 45 50 2.
Aspects of the present invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings of one possible embodiment thereof in which: Figure 1.
Is a sectional side view of the insertible tube, with nail, prior to fixing of the anchor.
Figure 2.
Is a sectional side view of the inserted anchor after fixing, and including a proposed nut.
Figure 3.
Is a sectional end view of: (A) the tube with loaded shot, prior to fixing.
(B) the tube with activated shot, after fixing.
The procedure to fix anchor bolt, generally indicated by arrow 8, is primarily to choose the correct shot 5, for the base 1. to adapt properly, then by loading such shot 5 into each barrel 4.
The tube 2, is then inserted into a pre-bored hole 9, of the required depth, followed by the nail 3, which is driven into such tube 2 until the nail head, with recessed key 10, are visibly aligned with the end of the tube thread 7.
The nail 3, striking in turn each set of shot 5, and thrusting them radially outward thru the barrels 4, and embedding into the surrounding base 1, thus forming an inseparable connection. The component to be fixed (if not in position) can now be placed and the nut 6 added with the necessary torque applied.
The procedure to remove anchor bolt, generally indicated by arrow 8, is to locate the recessed key 10, attach the correct tool, and withdraw the nail 3 followed by adding extra torque to the nut 6, which will simply pull the tube 2 out of the pre-bored hole 9.
It is envisaged that a variety of both tube sizes and shot types may be produced to encounter every designated requirement which may each have the optional marketing variation of preloaded or loose, offering a uniquely universal anchor bolt.
Aspects of the present invention have been described by way of example only and it should be appreciated that additions and modifications may be made thereto without departing from the spirit or scope thereof as defined in the appending claims. t i,v., w,; r j OF N.Z. 18."j3 2"3 j RECEIVED I

Claims (4)

3. THE CLAIMS DEFINING THE INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. An anchor bolt for universal connection comprising an insertible tube, adequately threaded at one end to accept the nut and incorporating numerous 10 radially attained holes of multiple sets along it's length, each individual hole accommodating and acting as a barrel for the contact material conformable with the texture of it's designated requirement, in a solid shot form which thrust apart when such tube's solid core, in the form of a profiled nail is driven therein, radially extruding 15 a plurality of such shot thru the perimeter of the tube to impact and embed the surrounding element creating a rigid fixture.
2. The anchor bolt for universal connection of claim 1 wherein a 20 recessed access key, such as a female thread, is provided at the head of the profiled nail. = V 25 30
3. The anchor bolt for universal connection of claim 1 wherein the nuts provided for anchorage may be in a variety of shapes according to the designated requirement.
4. An anchor bolt according to any preceding claim substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings. 35 Clyde Maxwell Robertson February 6,2000 OF hi. I 18 «3m RECEIVED
