Abstract

An physiologically acceptable aqueous solution comprising: (1) electrolytes, (2) a dynamic buffering system, (3) at least one oncotic agent weight fraction of an initial oncotic agent source, wherein the weight fraction ranges from about 50 000 to 1 000 000 daltons. Wherein the solution comprises at least two of magnesium, a sugar in an amount of not more than about 50 mM and a medium or high molecular weight oncotic agent, and does not include a biological buffer. The described aqueous solution can be introduced into the circulatory system of a host as a plasma substitute solution.
