Abstract
Provided is a shelter, in particular for a workshop, comprising a plurality of frame sections, with each frame section being pivotably connected to a least one base plate and flexibly or pivotally interconnected to at least one adjacent frame section such that pivoting one frame section to an upright position about the or each respective base plate causes each adjacent frame section to pivot to an upright position.

hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:

The present invention relates to a workshop shelter.
Workshop shelters are used for a variety of purposes in the construction industry.
Many construction sites require shelter to be provided for onsite equipment and personnel Much of this equipment may be large. The site may also be subject to severe weather conditions. It is therefore common ro require shelters that are substantial in size and strength.
The construction of such woricshops may require a significant amount of time. It is also often required to have specific equipment available for moving portions of the structure into place. For example, it is known to require the use of a crane to lift the framework of such shelters into position. These frame portions must then be secured into position before subsequent portions can be erected It may require a number of stages 10 complete construction of such a shelter.
It is an object of the invention to overcome the problems of the prior art, or at least provide the public with a useful alternative.
in accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is provided a workshop shelter including a plurality of frame sections, each frame section being pivotably connected to at least one base plate and flexibly or pivotally interconnected to at least one adjacent frame section such that pivoting one frame section to an upright position about the or each respective base plate causes each adjacent frame section to pivot to an upright position.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the Accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of a workshop shelter in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a side view of a frame section of the workshop shelter of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a side view a join of the frame section of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a side view of a base plate and hinge means of the frame section of Figure
2.
Figure 5 is a side view of an upper portion of the frame section of Figure 2,
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a lower connecting means of the frame section of
Figure 2; and
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the connection of brace members to the frame section of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a workshop shelter 10 including a plurality of frame sections 12, brace members 14 and connecting members 13.
Referring to Figures 2 and 3, each frame section 12 includes a plurality of endwise connected frame members 20. Each frame member 20 is provided with a respective flange 22 at each end. Each flange 22 is arranged to be connected to a flange 22 of the adjacent frame section 20 by any suitable means such as by welding or bolting. Further, each flange 22 is angled with respect to the frame member 20 such that when the frame section 12 is constructed from endwise connection of frame members 20 it is generally arcuate. Further, each frame member 20 may include a support member 36 between the flanges 22 provided for additional strengthening of the frame section 12. Each frame section 12 includes first and second ends 38 and 40. Further, each first and second end 38 and 40 is provided with a hinge pin 26. The hinge pin 26 is arranged to be inserted in a barrel member 28 attached to a respective base plate 18. The pin 26 and barrel member 28 together form a hinge means 29 as can be seen in Figure 4. The hinge means 29 allows each frame section 12 to pivot about its respective base plates

Each base piate 18 is arranged to be secured to the ground by any convenient means, such as by stakes driven into ihe ground through apertures (not shown) in the base plate 18.
Referring to Figure 1, at least one connecting member 13 is provided between each pair of adjaccnt frame sections 12. Each connecting member 13 is pivotally connected at each end to the respective frame section 12. Preferably, lower connecting members 15 are provided between points adjacent ends 38 and 40 of the frame sections 12 and upper connecting members 17 are provided between uppermost points of the frame sections 12.
Referring to Figure 6, the frame sections 12 are provided with a bolt 44 extending horizontally outward from the frame member 12 adjacent ends 38 and 40. Plate members 42 are provided having a central aperture arranged to receive a respective bolt 44 such thai the plate members 42 are pivotally mounted to the respective bolt 44. The plate members 42 further include outer apertures adjacent each end. Each outer aperture is alignable with a respective aperture provided in an end of a lower connecting member 15. Bolts 46 may be inserted through the aligned apertures to secure the lower connecting members IS to the respective plate member 42.
Referring to Figure 5X each frame section 12 is provided with outwardly extending members 48, extending from uppermost points on each frame section 12 toward each adjacent frame section 12. The outwardly extending members 48 each include an aperture alignable with an aperture in an end of a respective upper connecting member
17. A bolt (not shown) is inserted through both apertures so thai the upper connecting member 17 is pivotally mounted to the outwardly extending member 48.
The brace members 14 are provided to secure the frame section 12 to each adjacent frame section 12 when the frame sections 12 are in the upright position. Each brace member 14 includes transversely extending portions 50 at each end. Each frame section 12 includes a plurality of receiving means 24 for receiving the transversely extending portions 50 of brace members 14. The receiving means 24 comprise a channel member 52 of generally U-shaped cross-section. The channel member 52 is secured to the frame section 12, defining a receiving aperture 54. The receiving aperture 54 is dimensioned to receive the transversely extending portion 50 of the brace member 14, Once in place, the brace member 14 prevents further rotation of the frame sections 12 about base plates 18.
Further, a locking means 56 is provided adjacent the ends 38 and 40 of each frame section 12. The locking means 56 comprises a first apertured plate 58 secured to the base plate 18 and a second apertured plate 60 secured to the frame section 12. When the frame section 22 is in the upright position the apertures of the first and second apertured plates 58 and 60 are aligned and a locking pin (not shown) can be inserted through the apertures to prevent further rotation of the frame section 12 about the base plate 18.
Further, the shelter 10 is provided with a suitable cover (not shown) to be secured over the shelter 10 after it has been erected.
In use the work shop shelter is constructed from a plurality of frame sections 12, brace members 14, connecting members 13 and base plates 18.
Each frame section 12 is constructed by endwise connection of the frame seaions 20. Each arcuate frame section 12 is laid on the ground and the connecting members 13 are pivotally connected between adjacent frame sections 12.
The hinge pins 26 of the frame sections 12 are inserted in the barrel members 28 of the respect! v-»base plates 18.
An endmost frame section 12 is then connected to a suitable pulling means, such as a chain connected to a truck or tractor and the base plates 18 of this endmost frame section 12 are secured to the ground. The other base plates 18 are preferably left unsecured to allow for movement during erection. By pulling on the endmost frame section 12, this frame section 12 pivots around the hinge means 29 of the respective base plates 18 until it is in an upright position The connecting members 13 between the adjacent frame sections 12 simultaneously pivot all frame sections 12 into the upright position The remaining base plates 18 can then be secured.
The transversely extending portions SO of the brace members 14 can then be inserted into the receiving means 24 of the frame sections 12 to secure each frame section 12 to its adjacent frame sections 12 Further securing means such as the locking means S6 and ropes tied between the frame sections 12 and the ground can be used to further secure the frame sections 12 in place. A suitable cover is then installed over the workshop shelter 10.
Modifications and variations such as \vould be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention
Claims (4)
1. A shelter including a plurality of frame sections, each frame section being pivotally connected to at least one base plate and flexibly or pivotally 5 interconnected to at least one adjacent frame section such that pivoting one frame section to an upright position about the or each base plate causes the or each adjacent frame section to pivot into an upright position, and wherein each frame section includes a plurality of frame members; each frame member being substantially angled relative to an 10 adjacent frame member such that the resulting frame section is generally and substantially arcuate in shape.
2 A shelter according to claim 1, wherein each frame member includes a flange at each end, the flanges being arranged to be connected to a 15 flange of an adjacent frame member and the flanges further being angled relative to the respective frame member such that the resulting frame 4 section is generally arcuate in shape.
3. A shelter according to claim 2, wherein each frame section has first and 20 second ends, the first and second ends being pivotally connected to the or each base plate.

A shelter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one brace member is provided to secure each adjacent pair of frame 25 sections to each other when in the upright position such that when the frame sections are secured to each other, further rotation of said frame sections about the or each base plate is prevented. A shelter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one connecting member is provided between each pairof adjacent frame sections, each connecting member being pivotally connected at a first end to one of said pair of frame sections and pivotally connected at a second end to the other of said pair of frame sections. A shelter in accordance with any one of the preceding claims, wherein each frame section pivotally connected to a base plate includes a hinge with a hinge pin, which allows the frame section to pivot about the or each base plate; and a locking means, which includes a locking pin, a first apertured plate fixedly associated and/or integrally formed with the base plate, and a second apertured plate fixedly associated and/or integrally formed with the frame section, for substantially preventing further rotation of the frame section about the base plate. ) A shelter according to claim 6, wherein the frame section, in the upright position, substantially aligns the first and second apertured plates such that a locking pin can be inserted, to substantially prevent further rotation of the frame section about the base plate.
