ADHESIVE STRIP ARRANGEMENT
I, PETER VAN EEKELEN, a citizen of New Zealand and trustee of the Van Eekelen Family Trust of 28 Buchan Street, Christchurch, New Zealand hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:

ADHESIVE STRIP ARRANGEMENT
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to a method for distributing and/or dispensing adhesive tape, and in particular pre-cut lengths of adhesive tape.
Background to the Invention
Adhesive tape dispensers of various sorts are well known. The most common of these is a desk mounted dispenser that holds a roll of adhesive tape and also incorporates a serrated cutting edge so that tape may be pulled from the roll and cut to an appropriate length. The roll of adhesive tape used in such devices normally incorporates several metres of tape rolled onto a plastic former. Even the smallest of 1 5 such dispensers are bulky and inconvenient to carry around.
Alternatively, tape may be pulled from the roll without the aid of a dispenser and may be torn or cut with some other means. Even without the dispenser, rolls of adhesive tape are bulky and inconvenient to carry around particularly in a file, 20 briefcase or handbag.
When one purchases a gift and wrapping paper, adhesive tape is required to secure the wrapping paper, therefore a roll of adhesive tape must be purchased. As previously mentioned, rolls of adhesive tape are generally sold in lengths of several 25 metres, whereas only several small pieces of tape may be required to secure the wrapping paper. This means that a considerable amount of adhesive tape remains, which must be stored in a safe place until next required. Often these rolls of adhesive tape are misplaced requiring purchase of a completely new roll next time adhesive tape is required.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method for distributing/dispensing adhesive tape, which overcomes or at least mitigates some of

the abovementioned disadvantages or at least provides the public with a useful choice.
Summary of the Invention
According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a method for distributing/dispensing adhesive tape including:
providing a backing sheet, the backing sheet having a first surface adapted to be smooth or glossy, thereby allowing the easy removal of one or more adhesive strips; and applying one or more pre-cut adhesive strips to said backing sheet, wherein each pre-cut adhesive strip is adapted to be removed from the backing 15 sheet and used as adhesive tape.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided an adhesive taped product including:
a backing sheet having a first surface adapted to be smooth or glossy, 20 thereby allowing the easy removal of one or more adhesive strips; and one or more pre-coated adhesive strips disposed on said backing sheet, wherein each pre-coat adhesive strip is adapted to be removed from the backing sheet and used as adhesive tape.
Preferably the pre-cut adhesive strips may include a non-adhesive tab at one end, the non-adhesive tape allowing easy removal of the adhesive strip from the backing sheet.
Preferably the pre-cut adhesive strips may include a perforation to allow separation of the tab from the adhesive strip after the adhesive strip has been removed from the backing sheet. INTEOFF^ceAOFPRn.ZERTY

The backing sheet may include one or more sections where no adhesive strip is applied, said section(s) being used for instructions, information or display 5 purposes.
Alternatively the adhesive strips may be made of a clear material so that any instructions, information or matter written on the backing sheet may be read through the adhesive strips.

Further aspects of the invention will become apparent from the following description which is given by way of example only.
Brief Description of the Drawings
An example of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1: illustrates a perspective view of a first embodiment of an adhesive tape dispensing means;
Figure 2: illustrates a perspective view of a second embodiment of an adhesive tape dispensing means;
Figure 3: illustrates a plan view of the embodiment shown in Figure 2; Figure 4: illustrates a side elevation view of the embodiment shown in Figure 2;
Figure 5: illustrates a plan view of the embodiment of Figure 2 included with a value added product; and Figure 6: illustrates a perspective view of a pre-cut adhesive strip,
Description of the Preferred Examples
The following description is given by way of example only and is intended to illustrate the invention, which relates as much to the principle involved as to the resulting product.
Figures 1 and 2 illustrate alternative embodiments of the invention. Much of the description to follow will apply equally to either embodiment. It is to be understood that there are other embodiments which would also fall within the scope of the invention.
Figure 1 and Figure 2 show a backing sheet 6 with a plurality of adhesive strips 1 applied to a first side 4. Side 4 of the backing sheet 6 has a glossy or waxy surface so that the pre-cut adhesive strips 1 may be easily removed for use.

Each strip 1 may have a tab 5 at one end. The tab 5 has a non-adhesive section 3 which aids in the easy removal of the strip 1 from the glossy side 4 of the backing sheet 6. Backing sheet 6 could be a variety of sizes depending on the size (long, thin, short, thick) and number of strips 1.
The backing sheet 6 has an area 2 where no adhesive strip 1 is applied. This area could be used for printing product information or for display purposes. For example, area 2 could have a hole punched in it so that card 6 can be suspended from a display stand. Alternatively product information could be printed on the entire glossy 10 surface 4 of card 6. Clear adhesive tape would be used and the product information, or display, could be read through the clear adhesive tape.
Figure 6 shows an adhesive strip which has been removed from backing card 6. The strip is ready for use, for say, wrapping gifts. Non-adhesive section 3 allows easy 15 handling of the adhesive strip 1 until after it has been used. A perforation 7 may be provided so that non-adhesive area 3 can be removed from the strip 1 after it is used. Alternatively the non-adhesive area 3 could be cut of with scissors or other means.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4, the tabs(s) are not enclosed within the bounds of the backing sheet. In such a configuration the tab 5 may have a non adhesive surface 3 (as previously described). Alternatively section 3 could have adhesive applied. This would allow the tab(s) to be folded around the edge, to adhere to side 9, of backing sheet 6 as shown in Figure 4. The adhesive strip 1 25 could be removed by lifting tab 5 from side 9.
The adhesive tape dispenser could be marketed and sold with wrapping paper or other value added item. Alternatively, the dispenser could be sold separately from wrapping paper but displayed in the same area. An example of the dispenser 30 included on a value added item, such as wrapping paper 8, is shown in Figure 5. While the invention is primarily an easy and convenient way to purchase pre-cut

lengths of adhesive tape for wrapping gifts etc, it is understood that the invention may find application in any area where pre-cut lengths of adhesive tape are required.
Although the invention has been described by way of example and with reference to a particular embodiment, it is understood that modifications and or improvements can be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
