A silt trap comprises a water impervious container 44 with an opening 45 in its base. A layer of perforated modular wall panels lines the inner walls and the base of container 44 and defines a passageway in communication with opening 45 in the base. A bag of water permeable geotextile 46 is supported on the modular wall panels. An inlet pipe 48 is connected to bag 46 such that solids carried by water into the bag are retained in the bag and the filtered water passes along the passageway defined by the modular wall panels and out through the opening in the base of the container.
