Abstract

An expandable sheath, for delivering a therapeutic drug in a body lumen, comprises an expandable membrane 5 which may be in the form of a cylindrical member, a therapeutic drug combined with the expandable membrane and means, e.g. the expandable balloon portion of a catheter system, for delivering and expanding the expandable membrane in the body lumen so that the drug can be eluted at a specific site in the body lumen. The expandable membrane may have a first layer and a second layer, the layers affixed to each other along their edges to form a drug-containing reservoir therebetween, the first layer having a plurality of apertures 84, through which the drug can diffuse, which remain open when the first layer is in a stretched condition.
