Abstract
A retrofit electroluminescent (EL) lighting system for use with a gaming machine 104 produces lighting effects in response to lamp power signals from the gaming machine that would otherwise be used to power ordinary incandescent lamps on the gaming machine. The EL system 108 has several cells. Sequencing circuitry 106 provides an EL lamp driving signal to independently control each of the EL lamp cells so that the EL lamp cells illuminate in sequence. A microcontroller controls the frequency, amplitude, and duty cycle to the EL lamps to vary the colour and intensity of the EL lamps. The microcontroller also selects which lamps to illuminate, so that animated displays are produced. The sequencing circuitry 106 has signal level detection circuitry that monitors the level of the EL lamp driving signal and drives the EL lamps in response to the detected signal level.
