COMPLETE SPECIFICATION

"FURNITURE SLIDE"

I, PETER ALEXANDER CLOUSTON, a New Zealand citizen of 5 Aotea Crescent, Gore, New Zealand,

do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a Patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement : -

This invention relates to a furniture slide device.

The aim of the invention is to provide a slide device which may be used in conjunction with heavy items of furniture to enable such furniture to be more easily moved across surfaces.

According to a broad aspect of the invention there is provided a furniture slide device comprising a body having a floor contacting surface and an upwardly facing surface, said floor contacting surface being so shaped as to allow said body to slide over a floor surface with least resistance, said upwardly facing surface being recessed to at least two different depths, the resulting depressions each defining a shaped recess being bounded by a base surface and peripheral sidewalls, said depression, in use, receiving and locating a furniture leg, foot or like furniture support.

Preferably the device is made of a plastics material.

In further describing the invention by way of a preferred embodiment reference will be made to the accompanying drawings in which

Figure 1 is a plan view of the device, and Figure 2 is a sectioned side elevation.

Referring to the drawings the device is most suitably made of a plastics material by an injection moulding process. The body of

2064 1 8

the device is preferably rectangular in plan as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings save for the corner portions 11 which are rounded off as depicted.

The floor contacting surface 12 is longitudinally and laterally rounded as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings to allow it to side freely over a variety of flooring surfaces with little resistance.

The upper surface 13 of the device is shaped to receive a variety of sizes of furniture legs and footings. Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings each corner of the device comprises a moulded portion 14 being L-shaped when viewed in plan. A rim 15 extends between the corner portions. The area 16 confined by the corner portions 14 can receive various sizes of furniture legs or feet which are square, rectangular or circular in cross-section.

To accommodate furniture legs and feet which are circular in cross-section a circular recess 17 is provided in the middle of the body, however, this will also accommodate square or rectangular legs.

In a modified embodiment, apertures may be provided under at least two of the rims on the shorter sides of the body and the rim may be provided with scores so that it may easily be broken off whereby a larger size of furniture leg may be accommodated.

- 3 -

2 0 64 1 8

In the use the device is simply placed under each leg or foot of a piece of furniture. Because of the shape of the device wherein there are no leading edges, the device may easily slide over a variety of surfaces, particularly carpets.

It will be appreciated that modifications may be made to the device without departing from the scope of the invention.
