Abstract

Process for catalytic dehydration of chain lengths of 2-10 carbon atoms by mixing the alkane-containing feed with a diluent gas and passing this mixture stream under dehydrating conditions over a catalyst section with catalyst particles. The alkane in the mixing stream is at least partially dehydrated and thereby mainly converted to alkenes of the same carbon chain length as the alkanes. The dilution gas is formed with water vapor and hydrogen and the mixture stream is passed isothermally over the catalyst section. The catalyst is formed of platinum and tin on a hydrotalcite support and is used in particulate form in the catalyst section.
