Abstract
Foreliggende oppfinnelse er en forbedret metode og redskap til å bestemme formasjonstetthet ved å bruke en gruppe gammastråledetektorer. Denne oppfinnelsen kan gi korrigeringer når det finnes store avstander i borehull med uvanlig form og spesielt i forbindelse med økte avstander som en har ved spindelredskaper. I denne oppfinnelsen har de kollimaterte detektorene varierende undersøkelsesdybder i formasjonen. Ved korte avstander undersøker en detektor med kort mellomrom (SS) hovedsakelig slammet og slamkaken og et grunt lag i formasjonen. Til forskjell fra SS har en detektor med mellomstort mellomrom (MS) en dypere undersøkelsesdybde og er følsom overfor borehull og formasjon til og med ved økte avstander. En detektor med stort mellomrom (LS) er hovedsakelig følsom overfor formasjonstetthet, og dens tetthetsavlesing blir korrigert ved bruk av avstandsinformasjon fra MS- og SS-detektorene. I tillegg til å måle tetthet kan denne oppfinnelsen måle den fotoelektriske faktor (PEF) i formasjonen. Ettersom fotoelektrisk absorpsjon fortrinnsvis beveger gammastråler med lavt energiinnhold, må redskapshuset gjøre det mulig for gammastråler med lavt energiinnhold å gå gjennom det. Dette kan oppnås ved bruk av et vindu av et materiale med lavt atomtall (Z) eller ved bruk av husmateriale med lav Z, som titan. Typiske vindusmaterialer er beryllium og titan. Husmaterialer kan være titan, eller, når det er behov for lavt trykk, grafitt eller meget sterke karbonsammensetninger.
