Abstract
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for purifying exhaust gas by absorption in water, where exhaust gas is passed through seawater in rock cavities set under static pressure by water pressure maintained by a water column connected to the sea. It is preferred that the pressure in the rock compartment is in the range from 3-50 bar and that the temperature of the seawater pumped into the rock compartment has a temperature in the range of 0 - 20 ° C. Seawater enriched with C02 is returned to the sea. The rock compartment can be fully or partially packed with filling material in the form of cement pipe bits or crushed stone to increase the contact time between exhaust gas and sea water.
