Abstract

En fremgangsmåte for å avbilde formasjoner omkring et borehull omfatter trinnene å fastslå borehullets diameter, å fastslå en akustisk dempningsegenskap for formasjonene, å fastslå et dybdeområde inne i formasjonen av interesse for undersøkelsen fra borehullet, å plassere et verktøy i borehullet, å overføre akustiske signaler fra verktøyet i formasjonen, å motta de akustiske signaler ved verktøyet som har vært reflektert fra strukturer innenfor formasjonen, å analysere de mottatte akustiske signaler for å fastslå avstander til de reflekterende strukturer fra borehullet, og å generer et bilde av plasseringen til de reflekterende strukturer i forhold til borehullet basert på de fastslåtte avstander. Verktøyet omfatter i det minste en monopolgiver og i det minste en akustisk mottaker adskilt fra giveren ved en avstand valgt med hensyn til dybdeområdet av interesse for undersøkelsen. Frekvensen til det akustiske signal er valgt med hensyn til borehull- diameteren, formasjonens akustiske dempnings- egenskap og dybdeområdet av interesse for undersøkelsen.
