Abstract
En vekselstrømskomponent fra en fotodetektor omfatter to kvasi-sinusbølger innenfor en fasemodulasjonsperiode. T1 og T2 angir varigheten av disse kvasi-sinusbølger. Når en fiberspole er i rotasjon vil T, avvike fra T2. Forskjellen mellom T^ og T2 er proporsjonal med fiberspolens vinkel- hastighet. I henhold til oppfinnelsen utledes vinkelhastig- heten ved å måle tidsavsnittene Tl( T2 eller både Tj og T2. Null-krysningsdeteksjon fastlegger tidspunktene for begynnelse og slutt av T^ og T2. Da gyroskopet i dette tilfelle bare avhenger av måling av tidsavsnitt, vil det ikke være påvirket av fluktuasjoner i lyseffekt på grunn av lyskilden, eller forsterkningsfluktuasjoner i den elektriske krets.
