N-halogen- chitosanene er effektive som flokkuler- ingshj elpemidler.A process for preparing novel polymeric halogen derivatives of chitosan (eg, a terpolymer comprising 1-35% 2-deoxy-2-acetamido glucose units, 1-90% 2-deoxy-2-aminoglucose units and 8-95% 2-deoxy-2-halogenaminoglucose units) comprising reacting chitosan or a chitosan salt with a halogenating agent (e.g., sodium hypochlorite). The N-halogen chitosans are effective as flocculation aids.
