Abstract

A cylindrical core specimen (11) from an underground formation is placed in a sleeve (10) under a coherent pressure. At least one electrode kit (A) passes through the sleeve and contacts the core sample (11). The kit (A) stands in a plane perpendicular to the core sample (11) and has an equal number of electrodes (Ai-A24) which are evenly distributed around the sleeve (10). A current is passed through the core sample (11) and voltages are measured across each pair of electrodes (Aj-A ^ 'etc.) standing 180' apart around the sleeve. Such measurements are used to detect the radial direction of possible electrical anisotropy in the core sample (11), especially under varying conditions of fluid saturation.
