Abstract
Breast pump with a suction funnel 2 which is connected to a pump unit in the form of a flexible container 4. After squeezing and loosening, the container generates a negative pressure in the suction funnel 2, which creates a pumping effect, the suction funnel 2 and the flexible container 4 being connected to a coupling element 3. The coupling element 3 comprises a discharge valve 11 up to or in the coupling element 3, which is arranged to open and release air out of the container 4 when it is squeezed. The breast pump is designed to be sold without a bottle-shaped container, so that it is first supplied to a place of use. This can be done in that the coupling element 3 comprises a screw cap 9 for tightly screwing in a thread-carrying bottle top, in particular on a standardized consumption bottle with an elastically flexible wall.
Description
Brystpumpe Breast pump
Oppfinnelsen vedrører generelt ei brystpumpe som angitt i ingressen til patentkrav 1, for ammende kvinner. The invention generally relates to a breast pump as stated in the preamble to patent claim 1, for breastfeeding women.
Bakgrunn Background
For breastfeeding women, it can be advantageous in several situations to have the opportunity to pump out breast milk using a breast pump. Such situations can be, for example, when the woman is prevented from having contact with her child, in case of illness or when the child has difficulties in breastfeeding. Breast pumps come in many designs, with some being operated by hand and some being operated with an electric motor.
Many existing breast pumps are relatively advanced and expensive. They also require thorough cleaning between each use, in some cases with time-consuming dismantling of the pump.
As early as 1910, Howard V Brumley from New York, (US patent 949,278) suggested making threads on the outlet of a suction funnel to screw on a combined pump balloon and collection container. Although this means a simple solution with few parts, Brumley's breast pump has not been satisfactory. It creates spills around the suction funnel. The principle is used today in a modified form only for emptying pumps, without the collected milk becoming usable, for example in a simple PIGEON breast pump from Japan.
Karen Viers from Michigan proposed in 1987 (US patent 4,705,504) to thread a collection bag over a corresponding pump balloon with a one-way discharge valve at the bottom. This still creates spillage in the suction funnel and does not provide appropriate collection either.
With the PIGEON breast pump 16200 from Japan, there is a pump system that is operated with a handle. This pump becomes both complicated and bulky.
In US patent 4,680,028 (1978) it is proposed to connect a bottle into the connecting pipe between a suction funnel and a balloon pump, in order to collect breast milk in a practical and hygienic way. But this increases the number of parts to be handled and cleaned. In addition, this breast pump will require two-handed operation, which makes use impractical.
From EP patent application 198 651 (FGL Projects, 1986) a breast pump with a suction funnel and a discharge valve for air, which regulates the negative pressure in the suction funnel, is known. Here, the pump element is integrated with a cup to be placed over the chest. This requires relatively large dimensions and still gives an uncertain pumping effect due to the geometry of the elastic member.
The main purpose of the invention is to provide a breast pump which is simple and cheap to produce, is efficient in use and easy to clean. This means that it should have few parts that are easy to clean and easy to store and transport.
It is also important that it is practical to use, both in that it can be maneuvered with one hand and in that it causes as little spillage as possible.
It is a special purpose to create a breast pump with such small dimensions and such a low price that it is suitable for sale in grocery stores, petrol stations, hotel receptions etc.
Oppfinnelsen The invention
The purpose is achieved with a breast pump in accordance with the invention, as stated in patent claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the invention appear from the independent patent claims 2 - 4.
The invention can include both a breast pump with an associated bottle-shaped container and breast pumps delivered without such a container, for separate supply of container as described in the example.
Eksempel Example
In the following, an example of an advantageous embodiment is given with reference to the figure. This shows a partially sectioned side view of a breast pump in accordance with the invention, attached to an elastic, bottle-shaped container.
The figure shows an embodiment of a breast pump 1 which comprises a suction funnel 2, a connecting piece 3 and a flexible bottle-shaped container 4.
The suction funnel 2 has a funnel-shaped attachment part 5 which is adapted in a known manner for close attachment to the breast of a nursing woman. The narrow end 6 of the installation part 5 passes tubularly into a flexible intermediate piece 7 which is integrated with the coupling piece 3 over a tubular part 8. The flexible intermediate piece 7 allows the suction funnel to be angled in relation to the coupling element, with a maximum twist of approx. 90°. The intermediate piece 7 is flexible without being elastic and with a threshold value for the twisting moment, so that it remains in a selected position.
In the example, the connecting piece 3 is designed as a screw cap 9 for a bottle-shaped container. In addition, it serves as a carrier for a tubular valve housing 10 which protrudes from the coupling piece 3 next to the tubular part 8 which connects the suction funnel 2 with the coupling piece 3.
The tubular valve housing 10 forms a connection between the interior of the coupling piece 3 and ambient air and has at the end an elastic tab or wing 11 which forms the valve body in a first one-way valve, <3> n letting air out of the bottle-shaped container 4, but not into to this one. The valve body 11 is central to the function of the chest puma 1 in accordance with the invention, which will be described below.
The tubular part 8 which connects the suction funnel 2 with the coupling piece 3 is extended into the screw cap 9 and covered by a second elastic flap or wing 12 with a corresponding valve function as the valve body 11. It is designed to release breast milk from the suction funnel 2 into the coupling piece 3 and from there down into the bottle-shaped container 4, and prevent air from being pushed up against the suction funnel.
The bottle-shaped container 4 is shown in the example with a screw top, so that it can be screwed in tightly against the screw cap 9 of the coupling piece 3. However, it is possible to design the connection between the coupling piece 3 and the bottle-shaped container 4 in another known way.
The bottle-shaped container 4 is made of an elastically compressible material so that when compressed and released from the compression pressure it returns to its original expanded position with a certain force. Because of the first valve body 11, this will suck in air from the suction funnel 2. Because this is held close to the area around the nipple during use and does not let in air from the surroundings, a suction effect will occur that will pump milk out of the breast.
The bottle-shaped container 4 can be manufactured especially for this purpose and supplied as part of the complete breast pump. But it is also possible by choosing the thread form and thread dimension in the screw cap 9 to adapt this for screwing in standardized consumer bottles. Certain such bottles have proven suitable for use with breast pumps in accordance with the invention. This makes it easier to transport and store breast pumps. The consumer bottles that are relevant can be soft drinks and mineral water bottles, which are available almost everywhere in shops, kiosks, restaurants etc.
Bruk Use
An overview of the function of the individual elements in the shown breast pump is given above. In the following, this will be reviewed to show how the breast pump is used.
When the bottle-shaped container 4 is attached tightly to the coupling piece 3, by squeezing the container 4, its volume will be reduced, so that air from the container flows out past the first valve body 11.
By releasing the grip on the container 4, the elasticity of the container will push the walls outward again, so that a negative pressure is formed in the container. Because of this negative pressure, the first valve body 11 will close and the second valve body 12 will open, and the negative pressure in the container 4 will act on the chest. In this way, breast milk will be pumped out. By squeezing in and releasing the container 4 repeatedly, one is consequently able to pump out breast milk at the hielD of the breast pump, as the first and second valve bodies 11, 12 open and close_4 often closes and opens.
Breast milk that is pumped out in this way will flow through the coupling piece 3 into the bottle-shaped container and be collected there.
Modifikasjoner Modifications
The valve bodies 11 and 12, which may have a different design than that shown, can be integrated into a common valve housing which then forms an integral part of the coupling piece 3. As mentioned, the breast pump can only work with the first valve body 11 which releases air during compression of the bottle-shaped container.
