Abstract
Description
This invention relates to a method and device designed to automatically regulate the supply of foodstuffs to a liquid. By the term foodstuff is meant here both energy-giving nutrients, flavourings, fragrances, colorings and any other additives. The nutrient can, for example, come from tea leaves, coffee beans, dried fruit, spices, herbs, sugar, sugar substitutes, dry milk or the like. The invention can be used in connection with both hot and cold drinks.
Several devices are known from the patent literature which relieve the supply of foodstuffs to a liquid. A regular tea bag is plagued with several weaknesses. If the steeping time is too long, for example, tannic acid will gradually be released in excessive amounts. The user also has to handle the hot tea bag in a difficult way in order to squeeze out as much of the remaining liquid in it as possible, so that the flavors in the drink become more prominent, and so that the remaining liquid in the tea bag does not become a problem when it is then moved and stored outside the cup/container. Several patent documents, including US 5,674,545 and US 5,674,544 deal with tea bags provided with one or more threads where the user, by pulling on the thread(s), presses the bag together and thereby creates an improved and more controlled supply of foodstuffs than with the usual use of a tea bag. The disadvantages of these inventions are that the user himself has to control the compression time and degree of compression of the contents of the bag. This makes it difficult to achieve correct expulsion of nutrients or optimal taste and aroma.
The purpose of the invention is to remedy the aforementioned disadvantages of the known technique.
The purpose is achieved according to features in the following description and in subsequent patent claims.
According to the invention, a bag for foodstuffs is produced so that after a period of time the bag is automatically pulled together. Thereby, its contents compress, so that dissolved substances in the bag contents are pushed out of the bag into a surrounding liquid. The contraction is initiated with the help of moisture and/or heat. Said time course can be more or less pre-determined.
The bag can, for example, consist of woven threads. It can also consist of a fully or partially porous material that has been pre-treated so that it contracts at a sufficiently high temperature and/or at sufficiently high humidity. Examples of substances that can be pre-treated in this way are kynar, polyolefin, natural fiber and various other polymers or fibres. Said polymer substances are used, among other things, in shrink stockings and shrink plastic foils, where it is common to achieve a ratio of approx. 2:1 between the material's normal and shrunken state.
According to the method, the bag can be made of an elastic material which is first expanded and then, for example, dipped in, optionally covered, filled or hardened with at least one auxiliary substance. In this connection, an elastic material which is wholly or partly porous can be used, so that the auxiliary substance can penetrate into at least a proportion of the material's pores. Alternatively, the bag can undergo a process which makes the material relatively hard after application of at least one auxiliary substance. With subsequent use, the auxiliary substance will, for example, react and change its viscosity, or it can dissolve in a liquid so that the elastic material fully or partially resumes its original shape. The material, possibly parts of it, can, for example, be made as a fully or partially porous matrix or foil which is equipped with the above-mentioned properties. It is also possible to produce a thread which is arranged with the above-mentioned properties, whereupon the thread is used to produce bags, nets or matrices with said shrinking properties, as other conventional materials can also be used in combination with the material in question.
When at least one additive dissolves in the liquid after a while or changes viscosity, the elastic material will resume its original shape and thereby shrink in volume. The at least one additive consists, for example, of sugar, starch, crystallized minerals, fibre, viscose.
In addition, the bag may consist entirely or partially of threads that are designed in a friction-promoting pattern or with friction-promoting grooves that fully or partially engage each other during storage of the bag. The monster or the grooves help to stabilize the size of the bag before use. When the additive dissolves or changes properties, the pattern or grooves are destabilized and weakened in whole or in part, which helps the bag shrink.
The rate of contraction of the bag and any time that elapses before the contraction takes place or increases depends to a certain extent on the temperature of the surrounding liquid. Often this is an advantage as a warm liquid leads to both faster dissolution of the bag's nutrients and faster contraction of the bag. By using one or more additives that inhibit the dissolution or viscosity change of at least one additive, the bag's contraction speed can also be adapted to high liquid temperatures.
By also adapting the composition of the additives, the aforementioned time course can be adapted to the product in question in the bag. A bag containing tea, which normally emits a lot of tannic acid, can thereby be prepared with a shorter steeping time than, for example, a bag with tea made from dried fruit. Additives can also be included as desired nutrients, flavorings or aromas in the finished drink, for example as a sweetener or a thickener in the drink.
In some cases, it is desirable to arrange the bag so that there is a particularly large difference between the normal storage size and the contracted size of the bag. This can be achieved, for example, by designing all or parts of the bag with a design that reduces the volume of the bag when it comes into contact with the drink. Examples of such designs are a bellows shape, wave shape, star shape, spiral shape or similar designs. During the subsequent application of the excipient or excipients, the part or parts of the bag to be treated are stretched out in an expanded bag form. After curing of auxiliary substance and/or substance f one, the bag maintains this expanded bag shape. On contact with the drink's liquid, however, the bag will shrink and fully or partially assume its original, non-expanded shape, whereby the bag is pressed together.
One can also improve the contraction of an initially partially flat bag by providing its flat sides with at least one compression point or at least one continuous thread or similar construction. This prevents the bag from changing shape before and/or during its contraction.
According to the invention, a combination of the mentioned techniques can also be used, possibly also together with other known techniques.

Fig. la viser en krympetråd 4 ifølge oppfinnelsen. Fig. 2a og fig. Fig. 2c og fig. Fig. 4b viser teposen 2 ifølge fig. 4a sett i snitt langs snittlinje A-A. Snittet viser posen 2 i tørr og ukrympet tilstand før bruk. Fig. 4c viser teposen 2 ifølge fig. Fig. 6 viser en flat pose 2 ifølge oppfinnelsen, idet posen 2 bl.a. består av to flatsider 62, 64. Fig. 4c shows the tea bag contracted after use; Fig. 5 shows an enlarged section of a bag designed with patterned threads arranged in a friction-promoting pattern; and where Fig. 6 shows a flat tea bag whose flat sides are connected in several attachment points. Fig. 1a shows a shrink wire 4 according to the invention. The thread 4 can consist of plastic polymers or fibrous materials that have been pre-stretched or otherwise treated so that it contracts when it is exposed to a certain temperature and/or degree of humidity. Fig. 1b shows an enlarged section of a matrix 6 composed in whole or in part of the thread 4 according to Fig. let. A bag 2 can be produced from the matrix 6. Fig. 1c shows a section of a foil 6' arranged with the above-mentioned shrinking properties. The foil 6' is provided with several through openings 7 which allow liquid to flow into the bag before it shrinks. Depending on the design of the openings 7 and the nature of the surrounding material 6, the openings 7 can be completely or partially closed after shrinking. Fig. 2a and fig. 2b also shows a wire 4' according to the invention. The wire 4' is made as a fabric-covered elastic consisting of a flexible core 14 and a wire mesh 12 under tension, the wire mesh 12 having a stiffening additive 10 added to it. In contact with liquid and/or heat, the additive 10 in the wire 4' will lose its stiffening effect, whereupon the thread 4' shrinks and regains its original shape. Fig. 2c and fig. 2d shows a further thread 4'' according to the invention. This wire 4'' also consists of a flexible core 14. The outside of the wire 4'' is designed with axial ribs 13 which are distributed evenly around the circumference of the wire 4'' and which project radially from it. The ribs 13 are also surrounded by a stiffening additive 10 which forms a sheath which surrounds the core 14, and which in the dry state adds a certain stiffness to the thread 4''. This wire 4'' also shrinks in contact with liquid and/or heat. Fig. 3a shows a bag 2 designed according to the invention, where the bag 2 is filled with a nutrient 20, for example tea leaves. Fig. 3b shows the above-mentioned bag 2 placed in an unshrunk state in a cup 22 while the foodstuff 20 swells as a result of contact with a liquid 30 in the cup 22. Fig. 3c shows the above-mentioned bag 2 after it has been completely shrunk. Dissolved substances from the nutrient 20 are thereby pressed out of the bag 2 and mixed with the liquid 30 in the cup 22. After the bag 2 has finished shrinking, the pores in the bag 2 are completely or partially closed. Unwanted and/or slowly dissolving foodstuffs can thereby be prevented from being released from the bag 2, even after longer storage in the liquid 30. The bag 2 can then be lifted out of the cup 22 without the liquid 30 dripping from the bag 2, thereby avoiding liquid spillage. Fig. 4a shows an ordinary tea bag 2 which is pre-shaped according to the invention, and which is thereby a bag which will regain or otherwise achieve a reduced volume after shrinking. Fig. 4b shows the tea bag 2 according to fig. 4a seen in section along section line A-A. The section shows bag 2 in a dry and unshrunk state before use. Fig. 4c shows the tea bag 2 according to fig. 4b in a wet and shrunken state after use. In this state, the tea bag 2 has a wavy shape which reduces the volume of the bag 2, and which during shrinking pushes dissolved tea out of the bag 2. Fig. 5 shows an enlarged section of a matrix 50 of threads of the above-mentioned thread type 4', 4 '' which are interwoven in a friction-promoting pattern. According to the present method, the matrix 50 is first placed in an extended state, where the threads in the matrix 50 are in contact with each other. Then, and in this state, at least one auxiliary substance is added to the matrix 50 which locks its threads to each other in thread knot points 52, which stabilizes the matrix 50 during storage. Fig. 6 shows a flat bag 2 according to the invention, the bag 2 i.a. consists of two flat sides 62, 64. For connection, the flat sides 62, 64 are provided with, for example, fused, glued or sewn attachment lines or attachment points 60. During use, the attachment points 60 cause the bag 2 to retain its shape during and after its contraction. When wire is used to connect the flat sides 62, 64, for example the above-mentioned shrink wires 4, 4', 4'' can be used, so that further dissolved substances in the bag 2 are pressed out of it during its contraction.
