Description
The present invention relates to the laying out of elongated bodies from a surface vessel to the seabed. It particularly applies to permanent installations and the problem of preventing damage to an elongated body that is laid out between a surface vessel and the seabed. The elongated body can be a cable, an umbilical hose or the like, which comprises a core and outer protective layer including at least one layer of reinforcement elements.
US 3,216,203 deals with a device for subsea transportation of fluids through a flexible pipeline. The pipeline is assumed to have a positive buoyancy and it can be kept at a desired depth by anchoring the pipeline with several pairs of cables to structures on the seabed. However, this publication does not give any indication of how the cables can be attached to the pipe in order to prevent damage to the pipe.
The elongate body will usually follow an S-shaped curve between a mainly vertical outlet from a vessel and a mainly horizontal outlay on the seabed. At a certain location between the vessel and the seabed, the elongated body is suspended from buoyancy devices and at a lower location, the elongated body is anchored to the seabed. There is little risk of damaging the elongated body at the suspension point for the buoyancy device, but at the anchoring point forces act in all directions on the elongated body and these forces are difficult to master.
The purpose of the present invention is to produce means for anchoring an elongated body in a position as mentioned above, over a long period of time, without damaging the body. The main features of the invention are stated in the patent claims.
With the present invention, a reliable method and device for anchoring a cable or the like to the seabed has been achieved.
De ovenfor nevnte og andre trekk og formål ved den foreliggende oppfinnelse vil klart fremgå fra den etterfølgende detaljerte beskrivelse av utførelsesformer av oppfinnelsen sett i sammenheng med de vedføyde tegninger, på hvilke: The above-mentioned and other features and purposes of the present invention will be clear from the following detailed description of embodiments of the invention seen in conjunction with the attached drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 anskueliggjør en installasjon av et langstrakt legeme, Fig. 1 illustrates an installation of an elongated body,
fig. 2 anskueliggjør oppfinnelsens hovedprinsipper, og fig. 2 illustrates the main principles of the invention, and
fig. 3 anskueliggjør detaljer ved en forankringsinnretning. fig. 3 illustrates details of an anchoring device.
I fig. In fig. 1, a reinforced elongated body 1 is laid out so that it follows an S-shaped curve between a surface vessel (not shown) and the seabed 2. The body 1, which hangs vertically down from the vessel, is suspended at reference number 3 by means of a buoyancy device 4. most critical part of the body 1 is located where it is anchored to the seabed 2 by means of a wire 5 which runs from a weight mass 6 to an anchoring device 7 arranged on the body 1.
Due to the movements of the surface vessel and due to waves and sea currents, the anchoring device will constantly be moved, twisted and turned in all directions. The anchoring device must be able to absorb all forces acting on the body 1 without damaging the body in any way. This is achieved by attaching the device 7 to the body's reinforcement 8 and by allowing the anchoring device to move relatively freely in relation to the body. To achieve greater stability, a second anchoring wire 9 can be used, as shown.
Fig. 2 anskueliggjør prinsippene for forankringsinnretningen 7 vist i fig. 1. Forankringsinnretningen innbefatter en armeringsblokk 10 til hvilken armeringselementene (ikke vist) Fig. 2 illustrates the principles of the anchoring device 7 shown in fig. 1. The anchoring device includes a reinforcement block 10 to which the reinforcement elements (not shown)
i det langstrakte legeme 1 er festet. Detaljene er vist i fig. 3. The details are shown in fig. 3. The block 10 is provided with a groove 11 which accommodates a rotatable ring 12 to which an anchoring wire 13 is attached by means of a swing arrangement 14. The elongated body 1 is equipped on both sides of the reinforcing block 10 with ordinary bending limiters 15 and 16.
3. The ring 12 can rotate freely in its slot 11 in the reinforcement block 10, and this is also the case for the swing arrangement 14 in relation to the ring 12. A further anchoring wire can be attached to the other side of the ring 12, as shown in fig. 3.
I fig. In fig. 3, an embodiment of an anchoring device 20 is shown in more detail. An elongated body 1 exhibits at least 3 layers of reinforcing elements 21, 22 and 23. Two of the layers 22 and 23 are cut across and all element ends are sandwiched between two sets of clamping cones 24, 25 and 26 by tightening screws 27 in a reinforcing block 28 The open spaces 29 in the reinforcement block are filled with a water-repellent material to prevent corrosion.
The reinforcing block 28 is provided with a groove 30 to receive a rotatable ring 31. The ring is equipped with a pivoting arrangement 32 which also has a groove to receive a ring 33 to which an anchor wire 34 is attached. A handling eye 35 is also arranged. The reference numbers 36 and 37 indicate bending limiters. A further anchoring wire 38 arranged in a similar manner is shown on the other side of the reinforcing block 28, to achieve increased stability.
The above detailed description of embodiments of the present invention must be considered as examples only and should not be considered as limitations of the scope of protection. For example, the number of reinforcement layers can be varied. The swing arrangement 32 can be made spherical instead of the cylindrical shape shown. The bending restraints can be attached to the reinforcement block by other means.
