Description
Strømlinjebekledning i beskyttelseskappe for et langstrakt, lastbærende legeme Streamlined cladding in a protective jacket for an elongated, load-bearing body
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en kappe omfattende såkalt strømlinjebekledning, eller fairing, for ulike typer slepekabler, trosser og tauverk for bruk i maritime miljøer. The present invention relates to a sheath comprising so-called streamlined cladding, or fairing, for various types of towing cables, ropes and ropes for use in maritime environments.
In this context, there are two types of tow, directly behind the ship and horizontally from the sides of the vessel, such as e.g. when trawling or shooting seismic. The tow is particularly demanding if it is horizontal.
A towing cable with a circular profile has, at higher towing speeds (over approx. 4 knots), a large current resistance or "drag" in water. However, higher towing speeds are often desirable or necessary to avoid loss of time and/or increased costs, e.g. when operating over larger areas. The high flow resistance means, on the one hand, that the tensile load for the towing cable becomes large. This entails greater loads on the equipment, greater costs for towing the equipment (in the form of increased fuel costs), as well as less operational reliability. In order to achieve the least possible flow resistance for towing cables, it is common to use so-called "fairings". There are fairings of different types, i.a. streamlined, wing-shaped bodies of synthetic material to which rope or cable is attached. Another type is of wire material attached to a rope or cable.
A problem when using thread material can be great wear on the threads during use. The threads are "eaten up" when towing in a maritime environment. The wire material will also develop into "floss", this is considered to be negative as this reduces the effect of the fairing in the water and helps to increase the wear effect. In addition, the floss can be easily clamped and bundled together. The threads, possibly woven or braided bands, form islands or "loops", which are then cut so that the threads or bands hang out from the rope. If ribbons are used, these will also quickly flake up and form a floss. It takes a certain amount of time for the tape to fray, and this time constitutes an extended service life in itself. Ribbons tend to have a longer durability than thread compared to floss.
In addition to the factors mentioned above, where usability, wear and tear and short life are mentioned, there are also production considerations. Regardless of which type of fairing you choose to use, various possible variants and improvements will be decisive for the production costs and complexity, which will affect the cost to the customer.
It is generally known to use multifilament fibers, monofilament fibers and microtape to form gam. The yarns can be beaten into a fabric or cord, which can then be further beaten/braided into a rope. The harness will comprise three or more cord sections.
A protective cover of yarn can be braided around the rope. The protective cover can thus be comprised of multifilament fibers, monofilament fibers and microtape that has been turned into yarn. Such solutions lead to a certain "space" being found between the sheath and the rope and in the sheath itself. This also provides space for the ingress of particles. During use, the rope will therefore have a certain "pull" when it is pulled horizontally.
The sheath can also be placed on other cores such as plastic and steel cable, etc.
NO 314459 relates to a rope comprising a core of parallel or braided core strands as well as a jacket of braided jacket elements, where (some of) the jacket elements are formed from woven bands comprising mainly parallel filaments which are joined with transverse threads.
The purpose of the present invention is to remedy one or more of the above-mentioned disadvantages.
According to the present invention, this is achieved by a device according to independent claim 1. Further advantageous or alternative embodiments are indicated in the non-independent claims.
I det følgende gir en detaljert beskrivelse av en fordelaktig utførelse under henvisning til de vedføyde tegninger, der The following provides a detailed description of an advantageous embodiment with reference to the attached drawings, where
Fig. 1 viser en utførelse av foreliggende oppfinnelse. Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the present invention.
It is known to use woven or braided bands protruding from the sheath of a towing cable, hawse or the like, thereby forming a fairing. Such a fairing lasts longer because it takes some time for the tape to unravel and form a floss. The time it takes for the tape to fray can be added to the normal life of a frayed fairing. Secondly, it has been shown that a fairing that has not yet frayed can behave as well or better than a frayed fairing. It is therefore desirable to avoid fraying the tape.
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the present invention, where woven or braided bands 1 protrude from the sheath 2 of a towing cable, hawse 3 or the like, each protruding band 1 being treated in such a way that fraying is either completely prevented or significantly delayed .
According to one embodiment of the present invention, each projecting band 1 is coated with a plastic or other material which forms a membrane or coating around each projecting band 1.
Alternatively, each protruding band 1 can be treated with an agent, e.g. a fully or partially hardening adhesive or impregnating agent, which fully or partially penetrates each band 1 and ensures that it does not fray. In such a case, it may be desirable that the fully or partially hardening adhesive or impregnating agent does not make the projecting band too rigid or inflexible, which could conceivably reduce the desired function of the fairing. Under certain circumstances, however, it has been shown that such a rigid fairing can provide better streamline properties.
According to a further embodiment of the present invention, particles, elements or substances can be added to the coating, adhesive or impregnating agent which give the fairing better or preferred streamline properties. It may be about particles, elements or substances that make the fairing smoother, or that break up or affect the flow properties around each band 1 in a positive sense. It can also be about particles, elements or substances that give each belt a longer life or the desired friction properties.
According to a possible production process, the woven or braided bands 1 can be woven into the sheath 2 so that they form loops. In a subsequent step, the loops are cut so that they form projecting bands 1. These projecting bands 1 are then dipped into a vessel or passed past a spraying zone, so that each projecting band is coated or impregnated with the desired material. After drying and any subsequent processing steps, the towing cable 3 is coiled with coated or impregnated fairing bands 1 on a drum and is ready for distribution/sale. The invention according to the present invention thus does not constitute any particularly labor-intensive or complicating work step that requires large investments or restructuring/development of existing production systems. This results in a significantly better and attractive product that can be sold at an acceptable extra price for the end user.
The bands 1 can also be coated at the front before they are mounted on rope or cable 3.
The coating is referred to here as an adhesive, impregnating agent and/or a plastic material. Plastic material means any suitable material that forms a covering or penetrating coating, where the coating is flexible and malleable, has adhesive properties, is resistant to mechanical and chemical wear and UV radiation. The material can include polymer materials, rubber materials, resin etc. If the fairing consists of a compact, massive band, then the material must have properties that make the fairing sufficiently strong and durable.
