The present invention relates to a device for a toothbrush head. More precisely, the invention relates to a toothbrush head with a polishing device and a method for manufacturing this.
Dental hygiene and dental care are important factors in achieving and maintaining healthy teeth. Constant development is taking place to optimize dental care equipment and make it more efficient and functional.
The present invention relates to such further development and aims to provide a device for polishing teeth which gives the user the possibility of simple and daily access to a polishing device, where the device is at the same time gentle and does not cause damage to the teeth. It is desirable that the device can be included in a toothbrush without this affecting the possibility of practicing traditional toothbrushing, but rather can be advantageously combined with different types of brushing devices.
The present invention provides a device for a toothbrush head characterized in that it comprises a compressible pad arranged on a first side of the toothbrush head. The cushion may be filled with gas.
In one embodiment, the surface of the pad, when the pad is in an uncompressed state, is raised above a ground plane to the first side of the toothbrush head. In another embodiment, the pad's outer surface is equipped with polishing devices.
In one aspect of the invention, the cushion forms at least part of a flexible wall of a gas-tight chamber containing a compressible gas. The pad can be designed in that only one outer wall of the gas-tight chamber consists of an elastic material. Alternatively, the pad can be achieved by attaching a balloon-like gas-tight chamber made of an elastic material to a toothbrush head.
The cushion can be designed with studs on the inside to give it more stability and reversibility.
In one embodiment, the pad is arranged on the distal end of the first side of a toothbrush head relative to a neck portion connected to the head. On an opposite other side of the toothbrush head, a tooth cleaning device in the form of bristles and/or elastic dental care elements can be placed.
Videre omfatter oppfinnelsen en fremgangsmåte for å fremstille et tannbørstehode kjennetegnet ved at den omfatter - å støpe en første hodedel av et første plastmateriale der den første hodedelen omfatter en første side og en andre side og en gjennomgående åpning mellom de to sidene, - å støpe en puteliknende anordning av et elastisk andre plastmateriale i en del av åpningen til den første delen, der den puteliknende anordningen på den første side dekker åpningen og danner en pute som er hevet over overflaten til den første siden, Furthermore, the invention includes a method for producing a toothbrush head characterized in that it comprises - casting a first head part of a first plastic material where the first head part comprises a first side and a second side and a continuous opening between the two sides, - casting a cushion-like device of a resilient second plastic material in a portion of the opening of the first part, wherein the cushion-like device on the first side covers the opening and forms a cushion raised above the surface of the first side,
- å feste en separat fremstilt plate i åpningen på den andre siden.- to attach a separately produced plate in the opening on the other side.
In that aspect of the invention, the cushion-like device, the first head part and the plate together form a gas-tight chamber.
The method can further include attaching bristles or bristle-like elements to the plate before and/or after it is attached to the first part.
The pad-like device may include tabs extending from the back of the pad into the opening.
In one embodiment of the invention, the method comprises molding a third plastic material to the other side of the first head part before the plate is attached to the opening, where the third plastic material comprises an opening for receiving the plate.
In another embodiment, the method for producing a toothbrush head comprises molding a fourth plastic material to the first side of the first head part before the pad-like device is molded, where the fourth plastic material comprises an opening for embedding the pad.
The plate may comprise an elevation adapted for insertion into the opening on the other side of the first part. Furthermore, the plate can be attached to the first head part by gluing, ultrasonic welding or by pouring on a sixth plastic material.
The term toothbrush as used here is intended to include any type of dental and/or oral care device which may include bristle-like elements, but which may also instead of or together with bristle elements include brushing and/or polishing elements in the form of elastic lamellae, nubs, studs or similar. The term toothbrush head refers here to the part of a dental care device which includes cleaning and/or care elements and which is introduced into the user's mouth during use. At the opposite end of a dental care device you will normally find a shaft with a handle that the user can hold when the device is in use. The front of a toothbrush head is the side of the head that carries the cleaning and/or care elements. A toothbrush's longitudinal direction means the direction along the shaft and up through the toothbrush head.
The expression "gas-tight" and similar expressions are used here to describe a chamber container/space which is separated from the surroundings in such a way that under normal conditions of use for toothbrushes no exchange of gas takes place between the chamber/container/space and the surroundings. Where the chamber is formed by joining several parts, both the individual parts and the joint(s) will have such a gas-tight property.
Den foreliggende oppfinnelsen vil nå bli beskrevet i ytterligere detalj med referanse til de medfølgende figurene der The present invention will now be described in further detail with reference to the accompanying figures therein

Figure 2a shows a first head part equipped with a pillow-like device seen from the front. Figure 2b shows a first head part equipped with a pillow-like device seen from the side. Figure 5c shows a cross-section of a third embodiment of a toothbrush head according to the invention seen from the side. Figure 6a shows a fourth embodiment of a toothbrush head according to the invention seen from the front Figure 6b shows a fourth embodiment of a toothbrush head according to the invention seen from the side. Figure 6c shows a cross section of a fourth embodiment of a toothbrush head according to the invention seen from the side. Figure 1 shows a first head part 14 of a toothbrush head according to the present invention seen from the front. The first head part 14 of the toothbrush head comprises an edge 4 which delimits the head, an immersion 5 for receiving a plate and a through opening 1. Furthermore, the first part comprises part of a neck part 2 which illustrates where the toothbrush head is thought to be connected to a shaft part ( not shown). The design of the neck and any shaft part can be done in any way regardless of the toothbrush head. The first head part 14 is produced from a first plastic material, in one or more casts. It is possible to cast all or parts of any shaft or neck part at the same time as the parts 4 and 5. Figure 2a shows a toothbrush head 11 comprising the first part 14 illustrated in Figure 1 equipped with a pillow-like device 6 which covers the opening 1. The pillow-like device 6 comprises tabs 8 which extend into the opening 1 towards the immersion 5. Figure 2b shows the toothbrush head 11 seen from the side and shows how the cushion-like device 6 is raised from the surface of the back of the first head part 14. The surface 7 of the cushion-like device on the back of the toothbrush head can include structural elements in the form of e.g. lamellae, studs, depressions and similar devices that affect the polishing properties of the surface, but the surface 7 can also be smooth. The pillow-like device consists of an elastic second plastic material which is preferably molded to the first head part. Figure 2c shows a cross-section of the toothbrush head along the line A-A. The figure shows the immersion 5 for receiving a plate, and the other plastic material that makes up the pillow-like device 6 with pins 8. The pins 8 are, in a preferred embodiment of the invention, present to control the compressibility of the pad and to ensure that the shape of the pad is reversible so that after being compressed it returns to its original design. The presence, number and distribution of any studs will depend on the cushion's size, material thickness and material choice. Figure 3 a shows a first embodiment of a device for a toothbrush head 11 according to the invention seen from the front after a plate 10 has been placed in the immersion 5. Figure 3b shows the toothbrush head seen from the side. The plate 10 has been produced separately from a fifth plastic material and in this embodiment is designed with holes/openings 12 for attaching dental cleaning devices in the form of bristles or other types of cleaning devices. These tooth cleaning devices can be attached to the plate 10 after it is connected to the first part 14 or they can be attached to the plate before it is attached to the first head part 14. From figures 3a and 3b it is clear that the plate is designed so that it forms an approximately flat surface with the surface of the toothbrush head on the front, in contrast to the pillow-like device 6. Figure 3c shows a cross-section along the line B-B in the longitudinal direction through the toothbrush head shown in Figure 3a. When placing the plate 10, a gas-filled chamber 9 is formed between the plate 10 and the pillow-like device 6. The gas in this chamber is preferably air. The plate is attached to the first head part 14 so that a gas-tight joint is formed. The gas inside the chamber 9 is sealed and the cushion-like device 6 thereby forms a cushion on the back of the toothbrush head which can be compressed by applying pressure to the surface 7 due to the compressible property of the gas. At the same time, the gas pressure will increase in the chamber and cause the surface 7 to return to the starting position when the pressure load against the surface 7 ceases.
The joining of the plate in the first head part can take place in any way, for example by gluing, ultrasonic welding or casting a further plastic material in the joint between the plate and the first head part. The plate and/or the edge of the head part to which the plate is to be attached can be further adapted to the attachment method and these can include inclined parts, special surfaces or studs that can act as energy concentrators during ultrasonic welding. It can also be designed with channels or depressions for receiving a further plastic material.
Figures 4a and 4b show another embodiment of a toothbrush head 111 according to the present invention, respectively seen from the front and from the side. Here, a cushion-like device 106 and a third plastic material 3 have been molded into a first head part 13. The third plastic material 3 here forms an opening for inserting and enclosing a plate 110 with openings 112 for attaching dental cleaning devices in the form of bristles or other types of cleaning devices. Figure 4c shows a cross-section through the toothbrush head 111 along the line C-C. In this embodiment, the plate 110 comprises a raised part 15 which is adapted to and inserted into the opening in the head part 13 so that the pins on the pillow-like device 106 bump up against the raised part 15 on the plate 110.
The plate 110 is gas-tightly attached to the third plastic material and possibly also to the first head part 13 so that a sealed chamber 9 is formed.
It is also possible to manufacture the first head part from one or more plastic materials before the cushion is molded to the first head part. Figures 5a, 5b and 5c show a further embodiment of a toothbrush head 211 according to the invention seen respectively from the front, from the side and as a cross-section along the line D-D. In this embodiment, the first head part 114 comprises an edge 104 around an immersion. A plate 110 with openings 112 for attaching dental cleaning devices in the form of bristles or other types of cleaning devices is placed in the immersion. Between the plate 110 and the edge 104, a sixth plastic material 16 is introduced which molds the plate 110 and the first head part 114 firmly to each other. Figures 6a and 6b show a fourth embodiment of a toothbrush head 311 according to the present invention respectively seen from the front and from the side. Here, a fourth plastic material 317 is molded into a first head part 302 and a pillow-like device 306 is molded into the fourth plastic material. The fourth plastic material 317 here forms an opening for embedding the pillow-like device 306. A plate 110 with openings 112 for attachment of tooth cleaning devices in the form of bristles or other types of cleaning devices are arranged in an opening in the first head part 302. Figure 6c shows a cross section through the toothbrush head 311 along the line E-E. In this embodiment, the plate 110 comprises a raised part 15 which is adapted to and inserted into the opening in the fourth plastic material 317 so that the tabs on the cushion-like device 306 bump up against the raised part 15 on the plate 110. The plate 110 is attached gas-tight to the fourth plastic material and possibly also to the first head part 302 so that a sealed chamber 9 is formed.
The purpose of the figures is to illustrate the invention. The scope of the present invention is defined by the attached claims.
The first, third, fourth, fifth or sixth plastic material used for the manufacture of a toothbrush head can be freely chosen from any plastic material suitable for oral use and for shaping by molding. Examples of such a material are polypropylene (PP), ABS (copolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene monomers), PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) and the like.
The second plastic material from which the pillow-like device is made is preferably a thermoplastic elastomer, this can be based on PP, ABS and the like. The sixth plastic material can also be a thermoplastic elastomer which can be selected from the same group.
