The bulk tanks have a lower portion that converges to an elongated opening. A conveyor positioned at the elongate opening forces the cuttings out of an outlet port at the bottom of the bulk tank. A suitable conveyor means is a screw-type conveyor coupled to a motor that applies a driving force to the drill cage. The lower portion of the bulk tank may be formed as a wedge or a chute which is generally in accordance with the design of the conveyor. The bulk tanks contain the drill cage until it can be delivered via the outlet port to a transport vessel for processing or to dispose of it. For offshore operations, the system includes a separation unit on the rig which forms the cuttings from fluid returning from the wellbore and a cuttings flow unit which transports the cuttings from the separation unit to the bulk tanks.
