Abstract
En mekanisme er tilveiebragt for å utvide rekkevidden til trådløse anordninger utover rekkeviddebegrensningen som følger av tidsstyringsbegrensninger som påtvinges av standarden IEEE 802.11. Mekanismen, som jobber i øvre nivå av 802.11 MAC, avgjør om de trådløse anordningene er langt fra hverandre eller ikke er langt fra hverandre. Når de trådløse anordningene bestemmes å befinne seg langt fra hverandre, deaktiveres den standard retransmisjonsprotokollen på det nedre nivået av 802.11 MAC, og en tilpasset ACK-pakke anvendes. Levering av en utsendt datapakke bekreftes dersom den tilpassede ACK-pakken mottas innenfor en maksimal forsinkelsesperiode som tar hensyn til den lengre forplantningsforsinkelsen mellom trådløse anordninger som befinner seg langt fra hverandre
