Et elektrokjemisk sensorsystem inneholder en elektrokjemisk sensor og en hydrogelkomposisjon. Den elektrokjemiske sensoren har minst en kontraelektrod og en jobbende elektrod. Hydrogelkomposisjonen setter seg i forbindelse med den jobbende elektroden. Hydrogelkomposisjonen inneholder en første monomer, en annen monomer, en krysslenkende agent og et løsningsmiddel. Den første monomeren har hydrofiliske karakteristikker. Den anden monomeren har hydrofobiske karakteristikker. Forholdet av den første monomeren til den anden monomeren er fra omtrent 0.1:99.9 til omtrent 99.9:0.1.
