Abstract

I en utførelsesform er kloridet magnesiumklorid og liksiviantoppløsningen regenerert.A process for leaching a valuable metal from a base metal sulfide ore material comprising leaching the ore material with a liquid comprising a chloride, an oxidant and hydrochloric acid is disclosed. The leaching is controlled using low concentrations of hydrochloric acid and a redox potential to effect the formation of hydrogen sulfide from the base metal sulfide ore material. The hydrogen sulfide is stripped from the leaching solution, thereby reducing the amount of sulfate generated in the leaching to very low levels. The leaching can also be carried out to limit the co-resolution of platinum group metals and gold together with base value metals. The leaching provides a value metal enriched leached material and a solid residue and the solid residue can then be leached to recover platinum group metals and gold. Value-rich, leached material can be oxidized and neutralized to recover valuable metals. In one embodiment, the chloride magnesium chloride and the solvent solution are regenerated.
